Mr Benjamin Myers has a new novel in the pipeline. As usual, I'm reading it for the first time as a proof -- which is how we've managed to stay together for 20 years without interfering in each other's work. Needless to say, the first chapter went down a treat before bed. I highly recommend it.

The day before Gallows Pole was broadcast three years ago, my father dropped down dead. The opening scene of Hartley’s father laid out in his coffin seemed fortuitous. That we had been sitting with my father’s body a few hours before its screening was not something we could ever have predicted.
