LLMs cease to be useful when they can't be used to scam people into unknowingly reading slop anymore. When the typewriter was invented, no one had to pretend its output was handwritten to get people to accept it. Typing had its own utility. LLMs are scamtech that have no utility outside the scam.

Claude users are canceling their subscriptions, citing Anthropic’s new AI watermark
One developer said they feared Anthropic's watermark could lead clients to flag their work as AI-generated and raise questions about authorship.

I'm still busy at work and I've gotten a good way through the initial stuff for Addercop Space: Phoenix. Speaking of, the ship got a little banged up in the last book, which seems like a good opportunity to do a retexture now that I know more about #Blender #Sci-Fi #SciFi #Worldbuilding #Addercop

Funny thing about the #clippy/#clippit thing to protest AI - when I was finishing my last book, I needed a grammar checker. All the grammar checking tools I could find advertised being AI. So I dusted off an old copy of Windows 98 and Office 97 and clippy grammar checked my book.

A federal court ruled that ANTHROPIC illegally copied MILLIONS of books to train its AI. All authors and publishers whose books were downloaded by Anthropic from pirate websites are subject to receiving compensation. This could involve your work. For more info: authorsguild.org/news/anthrop...

I also sometimes do YouTube videos (rendering takes forever, though, it's infrequent). But I did try my hand at some basic ship combat a few months ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwQD...

re: generative AI I have finally fully and accurately explained my problem with how it’s marketed and used. And now, you can use it, too.
Generative Al is being marketed as a tool designed to reduce or eliminate the need for developed, cognitive skillsets. It uses the work of others to simulate human output, except that it lacks grasp of nuance, contains grievous errors, and ultimately serves the goal of human beings being neurologically weaker due to the promise of the machine being better equipped than the humans using it would ever exert the effort to be.

The people that use generative Al for art have no interest in being an artist; they simply want product to consume and forget about when the next piece of product goes by their eyes. The people that use generative Al to make music have no interest in being a musician; they simply want a machine to make them something to listen to until they get bored and want the machine to make some other disposable slop for them to pass the time with.

The people that use generative Al to write things for them have no interest in writing. The people that use generative Al to find factoids have no interest in actual facts. The people that use generative Al to socialize have no interest in actual socialization.

In every case, they've handed over the cognitive load of developing a necessary, creative human skillset to a machine that promises to ease the sweat equity cost of struggle. Using generative Al is like asking a machine to lift weights on your behalf and then calling yourself a bodybuilder when it's done with the reps. You build nothing in terms of muscle, you are not stronger, you are not faster, you are not in better shape.

You're just deluding yourself while experiencing a slow decline due to self-inflicted atrophy.

Aspiring writers, here is some advice: * Unlearn the "You must always have a punchline or be quipping one liners" you learned from the MCU. This is one of the ways works talk down to you - because they think you have a 5 second attention span and tune out if there's no joke.

While I'm on the general subject of "AI," let me just say that it's a real dickheaded maneuver to tell an actual artist that their work "looks like AI." Their work doesn't look like "AI" because they're aping what "AI" does; it looks like "AI" because the "AI" company fucking stole from them.

This is the battleship by itself. As the largest military assets, battleships rely on their shuttle bays for logistics transfers - either by docking to stations large enough to accommodate them, or via underway replenishment by shuttles and other smaller ships. #scifi #worldbuilding #blender #gimp

I was a beta reader for this book. If you like space opera stories about normal people being in the wrong place at the wrong time, caught up in things much larger than themselves, and dealing with a callous, unfair universe, it's a solid read. And you can't beat the price!

Say a locksmith comes to a character's house to open a locked door in your novel. Guess what? Unless that person figures into the novel later, or the interaction has some other meaning, just cut to the effin' door being open. No one gives a flying f*ck about the locksmith in this context.

I will note that most of my posts here will be about book stuff. I tend to keep my musings either private, on my blog (ircnetsplit.com) or otherwise more private. I've never been much of one for social media but since I have my own stuff to share I figure why not share?
