This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

This rhetoric is ideal for listeners who believe trans women are an issue that they're supposed to care about, but don't actually have any real-world experience with them. The hypothetical trans girl who's supposedly causing all this trouble in the WNBA is the perfect tool for the conservative movement. She can't fight back, she can't disprove anyone's assumptions, and she can't garner sympathy when she's the target of hate. The perfect trans girl is the one who only exists in the imagination of the loudest cis people. Her monstrousness, the need to "protect young girls in a locker room" from her, gives them permission to enact policies that in reality only harm the anonymous girls, cis and trans, who want to play sports without the invasive scrutiny of gender-obsessed adults.

I expect my followers on Bluesky are smart, attractive people who would never fall for a book scam email, but I got a new variety today I thought I'd call out—a scammer actually claiming to be an editor at Chronicle (incidentally, one of my publishers). The link goes to Chronicle and everything.

Part of a scam email of the sort that ostensibly preys on insecure published authors (or as I call them, "published authors"). This one's the first I've gotten that poses as a legit publishing house, including a link to the real house website and another to its entry on Wikipedia.
