Grateful for every Kagan opinion I read. The parentheticals are always *chef's kiss* (Reading Florida v. Harris 2013 for CrimPro, and I was wondering about how SCFL's rule would work for young dogs, and then bam, "(One wonders how the court would apply its test to a rookie dog)" and I'm 😆)

Always thinking about how my advisor is drilling into me archival choices is so important to a project (which I'm glad about!), and then reading how a published book/article's archive was chosen because the books were within reach / on the bookshelf.

If I channeled Sophia every time I get called on to provide facts, do you think my professors would get annoyed? "Councilor McLain, please provide the facts of this case." "Picture it. California, 1971." It'd probably be better than the AI paragraphs others are reading...

Today I'm grateful for working memory documents. Because I juggle a lot of different balls, I don't always remember where I was in a project when I sit down to work on it; working memory documents record what I've done and where I'm going (idea from Cal Newport).

Today I took a look at James Gurney's second Dinotopia book, THE WORLD BENEATH (1995), a parable about the dangers of a society that overrelies on technology and turns its back on multispecies community. A beautiful book, but not nearly as powerful as DINOTOPIA (1992).

My offering to the gods.
A now 34 year old and their dog, Gwenivere, in the woodsLeo season set free; goodbye, thirty-three,
You were a twisted duality,
A sense of punctuality,
A desperate plea at abnormality

I once wrote what I thought I’d have and be,
I wanted three, four, five children by now,
A job, a wife, a house, a mortgage, a dow,
Goals & plans now lost in Chopin’s snow.

Instead I have three of five pieces of paper, see,
A dog, student debt, lots of books, new way,
Fair amount of games; not enough people to play,
I guess that’s what it’s like with just "hey."

Why does success always feel like failure?
To succeed one must fail,
to fail one cannot succeed,
Go go go go go go go go go go
Why does failure never feel like success?I once wrote in a journal, but no more,
what I would have by thirty-four:
five-six children,
a wife,
a life,
a house, a job,
a calling, a dedication,
family dinners, walks in sunsets.

Clock ticks, ticks bite, bites fester;
Wounds never heal just as heals never wound.
I never erased that dream; I only wasted
who I am was are then now not.

Welcome,
Thirty-four.
Renew anew tempest beset.
Time never fails-falls backward.
So we must start forward, forgetting,
Remembering, failing, succeeding,
Again. Into. Set sun.
Prowl, Pride, liberation bound.
