Especially if it is facing West, it would provide more effective cover if it were wider. Look at the FLASH stops where the West-facing coverings tilt upwards &provide little shelter from sun/rain coming from the West. Designers must not have spent time standing in hot summer sun waiting for a bus.

Credit to MCDoT for trying to improve bus stops. "Seven bus stops...now feature new Axel‑style benches with built‑in solar lighting. These energy‑efficient benches boost visibility during evening, nighttime & early mornings." But how effective are these in protecting riders from sun and rain?

I was in Utrecht for the annual Velo City conference last week and got to cycle slowly around the world's largest bike parking garage beneath the Centraal station. Room for 12,500 bikes and the first 24h of parking is free

Cars have a geometry problem. The massive infrastructure dedicated to them is an illusion of poorly allocated space. Cities run best on walkability, bikes, and transit. The personal automobile has no rightful future dominating our streets. Autonomous, EV, nor petrol.

In #weekwithoutdriving today, my father, my son and I biked to our local lumberyard, purchasing the wood to build a bench. They helpfully cut it for us and it all fit in my cargo bike. Shop local!

Radiohead, In Rainbows tour, Merriweather Post Pavillion. Traffic to venue always a nightmare, so we arrived super early. Except it was pouring rain and high-30s/low-40s. Were in lawn and theres no coverage. Opener finishes and Radiohead takes about 90m to setup. We leave after 3 songs.
