Made a little browser extension to translate numbers into words when you toggle a button. I've been thinking about it since listening to @accessiblenumbers.bsky.social Accessible Numbers podcast. I haven't quite cracked big numbers yet but just wondering if this would actually be useful?
A BBC news screenshot with content that contains numbers like "900 people". There is a button in the corner with the label "Number to words"The same BBC news article with the numbers translated into words for example 900 in numerals people has become nine hundred people in words.

Difficulty sequencing. Directional confusion. Difficulties in word problems and multi-step calculations. An inability to count backwards reliably. Difficulty with language. Weak strategies: for example counting in 1s. Inability to notice patterns. Weakness in both short-term and long-term memory. Problems with all aspects of money. Inability to generalise. I can relate to this Helen. Definitely hoarding money. Sometimes I struggle to spend on things like toothpaste. Those skills sound sensible and helpful. I'm reusing some old clothes to make blankets and avoid them going to landfill.

Screenshot of a form about reporting highways problems. There’s one question and 3 options. The question ass “what is the diameter of the pothole?” Option 1: Less than 30cm (smaller than a dinner plate). Option 2: More than 30cm (larger than a dinner plate). Option 3: I don’t know.

Thinking of how we use one data point to assume everything about a person. Someone has wifi so they must be well off (they might be using free wifi on a bus or library). Someone uses Dragon software so they must be blind (they could have a motor disability or be dyslexic).

Interesting. I dream of numbers all the time. I have a recurring dream about missing flights and trains because I’m late or misread the terminal number. Countdown times suck and they’re on increasingly more services.

Yeah. Great points. Wouldn’t be great if services shared data so you wouldn’t have to enter the same information all the time. Some teams in UK gov are trying to solve this problem. 🤞

The number of zeros was intentional too since it’s easy to mistake 100 for 1000. I realise by explaining these things, the simulation might not come across in the way intended.
