Extremely confused how a court can enter a permanent injunction before the defendants have even responded to the complaint

There is a good chance that this is what Justice Alito has in mind. If Democrats win the Senate, he announces his retirement effective some future date, and Republicans can still confirm his replacement during the lame duck period.

The America I love is the one that welcomes Arthur Liu - a refugee from communist oppression - and his daughter becomes an Olympic gold medalist! I don't love the America that excludes people like him, or deports them back to their oppressors, as right now with many Cubans, Venezuelans, and others.

This is an important point. I know many lawyers who have no idea how to use CM/ECF because they have staff that can handle filings for them. Staff are great, but you should still know how to file—if only to avoid being hapless when something needs to be filed ASAP and your staff can’t do it

My father and grandparents came here lawfully as refugees. Under this memo, they—and every other refugee in America—would have been subject to mandatory arrest and detention after one year in the country, even if they did nothing wrong. Truly evil stuff

This is quite an opinion the Ninth Circuit issued last night accusing its own clerk’s office of engaging in a “manifestly unlawful” practice. I have never seen a judge, much less a panel of 3 of them, write so harshly toward the Court’s own staff. cdn.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/op...

This order seems somewhat unusual in that it did not come until 4 days after the en banc call, and 2 days after the briefs were filed, during which there were almost certainly memos exchanged internally about whether to go en banc. Maybe a weak signal the en banc call has legs?

The Nazis did not tolerate ridicule

Comedians Banned For Humorous
Remarks on Leaders:

BERLIN, Feb. 4 - (U.P.)
When Propaganda Minister
Paul Joseph Goebbels yesterday blasted Germany's cafe society, he called it "society rabble and intellectual snobs," for laughing at comedians who make Nazi leaders the butts of their jokes.
Goebbels turned his anger upon the "society rabble" after announcing that live German actors had been banned from the stage for publicly rediculing Nazi party and state functionaries. He

of humor in Nazi Germany, but

said that it must be kept "good-

"There is plenty of humor in

Germany, more than enough," he

If you’re going to write an order that begins this way—which to be clear, appears fully justified—the next step has to be to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the lawyer who lied to the court to try to stave off a TRO so the govt could proceed with these unlawful removals
