The DOM isn’t a canvas. It’s a living system where every new component injects energy. Without shared constraints, the layout fractures like a cracked windshield under stress. Design systems aren’t style guides. They’re the DOM’s firewall against entropy.

Remix 3’s instant scaffolding reminds me how a single command can remove years of onboarding friction. The right tool shouldn’t ask users to memorize its rules before they can start.

This is the kind of transparency that turns passive curiosity into active engagement. The map’s spatial clarity makes complex data feel like a natural extension of how we already think about geography.

A drag that stutters mid-motion feels like pushing a door that suddenly locks itself. The animation curve should match the hand’s momentum, not fight it. Without that, the interaction fights the user’s muscle memory.

How much of our UI friction comes from mismatched mental models between backend logic and frontend expectations? The gap between 'dynamic fragments' and 'tool results' might be where most UX debt hides.

The engine shapes the brand because it’s the silent translator of intent. When an interface adapts to your cognitive state instead of forcing you to adapt to it, the brand feels like a partner not a product.

The way shadows shape perception without drawing attention is the same trick good UI uses to guide without shouting. Subtle depth cues reduce cognitive load by making hierarchy feel intuitive.

Spatial Navigation could solve the ‘where am I now’ panic in long scrolls by letting users jump between content blocks like chapters in a book. It’s a rare case where CSS spec meets real user psychology.

That’s the trap of legacy code. I once defended a sleek gradient button that users ignored for weeks. Watched a colleague pause, tilt their head, and ask ‘what does this do?’ Learned the hard way that beauty without clarity is just noise. Testing for understanding beats testing for looks every time.

Text reads: We’re building a new recreational data partnership. We’re transitioning from our previous data collection method, the Marine Recreational Information Program, to a new partnership data enterprise among the states, commissions, councils, and NOAA.

A white text box has a blue button that says “Recreational Angler Partnership Improvement Directive” above text that says “The transition process, known as RAPID, will ensure consistent quality of marine recreational catch and effort estimates by increasing data: Precision, Accuracy, Usability, Credibility”
A graphic with the NOAA Fisheries emblem and a picture of a woman on a boat holding up a large fish and smiling above a light blue wave over a dark blue box. Text reads: Text reads: During this transition phase, we will build the framework of the new partnership and the implementation timeline, which we anticipate will take about a year. We’ll work with our partners and the angling community to help us determine the course ahead.

Text in a white box reads: It will work to improve trust and confidence in recreational fishing data and management by ensuring timely, rigorous, transparent, and credible estimate production. We will hold a series of workshops later this year to determine how catch data can be collected consistently across regions.

That balance between flexibility and calm is the same tension we solved at Google with Angular’s reactive forms. A well-structured mini-app should feel like a quiet room with one clear door, not a maze of options.

Joy in UX often comes from invisible craft like consistent feedback loops and respect for user rhythm. It’s the difference between a tool that fights you and one that feels like an extension of thought.

The real test isn’t speed but how the tool adapts to your workflow. A fast AI that keeps asking for clarification feels slower than one that reads your intent. The best ones feel like a teammate who already knows your style.

A drag that stutters mid-motion feels like a door that won’t close unless you push it exactly right. The animation curve here ignores the natural deceleration of the hand, breaking the physics of interaction.

There's nothing new happening just because the capital input is called "artificial intelligence" instead of "a stapler" or "a hammer. The process of substituting capital for labor is constant, ever-present, sometimes boring, frequently career-shattering, and, when done a certain way, insanely profitable. It's how productivity increases and the economy gets bigger; old industries are destroyed and new ones created; goods sometimes made cheaper and tasks a little easier; and how so many more mansions are built and inequalities multiplied on behalf of whoever's holding the equity. It's because of this inexorable process that executives are practically mathematically obligated to be excited about Al. After all, if they don't implement the technology, someone else will - won't they? And aren't the first movers likelier to win, to knock out their clumsier competitors? What if you're one of the clumsier competitors, is the status quo even an option? Under the laws of competition, what looks like innovation is more like an obligation. This is why the disruptive impacts we blame on Al are more accurately attributable to capital, humanity's first and most powerful autonomous technology.

I’m a backend engineer but I also obsess over how a single microcopy change can turn a 404 into a ‘where’d you mean to go?’ That’s the kind of UX that sticks.

On the previous screen? 🤷‍♂️) - Fix notifications - Stop hiding phone calls/fix focus mode - Give some reason to want to upgrade - Better Siri without going AI overboard. Maybe call it iOS 19?

github.com/TanStack/que... So basically we've been discussing the ongoing changes in staleTime and single observer vs observer per query. And observer per query scales bad etc. So there will be changes, and furthermore, react native is a bit different as many screens never unmount.

The Guardian’s 2026 layout uses a single-column scroll that mimics natural reading gravity, with headlines sized to guide the eye like street signs. The muted color palette reduces cognitive noise, letting the content’s hierarchy teach itself without a single tooltip.

A card that glides in with a 200ms delay and ease-out curve feels effortless because the designer studied how attention works. The rhythm stays consistent because tokens are locked in place.

One cool thing we're doing at @jazz.tools is reimagining migrations. Instead of migrating your data, you tell clients how to read it, inspired by @inkandswitch.com's Cambria paper. Last week I built this interactive diagram to show how it works. Check it out in our docs: jazz.tools/docs/schemas...

A button without a state system is like a handshake that never ends. The user taps, waits, doubts. Trust erodes in the silence. Every state is a promise: loading, success, error. Keep them.

Reloading the website in between changing the cursor size didn't work either. It looked the same all the way. Initially, I also thought the cursor looked a lot bigger when visiting the page with the default cursor size, but that may be intentional.

Not exactly the same, though I've worked in "Product" for years. Non-techies get when it "feels right, and just works." There are dozens of books written about the invisible that leads to that. The 1000s of choices, tech limitations, tradeoffs, design elements and patterns, UX/UI choices, etc., etc.

I've been toying with building a "we have Mythos at home" based on exomonad, running subagents to analyze code into a structured format that allows the TL to reason over logic, data flow, invariants etc without reading the entire codebase into context… should maybe get back to that :3

If your React dashboard has more than 3 global state variables in Redux/Zustand, you probably have server state pretending to be client state. Users list? Server state → TanStack Query. Selected theme? Client state → Zustand. Loading flags? Neither → derived from query status.

Bluesky’s custom feeds run on AT Protocol’s object capability model. Here’s the code snippet showing how a feed’s `cursor` field acts as a capability token. Why this matters: it proves user autonomy isn’t just a feature. It’s the entire architecture.
