I'm not seeing it. The fundamental problem is Congress has capitulated to the President. Another problem is the Supreme Court has decided Congress can't create any kind of official the President can't fire.

You were talking about "access to chiles," and powders like paprika is one of the main ways they were accessed by the masses. I think British cuisine is actually pretty accepting of horseradish, ginger, and mustard compared to neighbors!

A lot of it is the dominance of French haute cuisine which avoids strong flavors generally and has no place for heat. But even spicy "traditional European" dishes with some form of chilis in them like piperades, paprikashes, and arrabiatas (not that old actually) are pretty mild to Americans.

As best I can tell, Trump is actually talking about a visit to U.S. Steel (now One Liberty Plaza) days after 9/11. That building was closed for about 6 weeks and there were repeated rumors it might collapse, though only the facade was damaged.

I mostly appreciate this account's work, but here it's misleading. Trump claimed he was evacuated from the U.S. Steel Building across the street from the WTC complex (which was rumored to be in danger of collapse on 9/11). He did not claim he was "lifted out of the rubble" of the WTC itself.
