I’ve been coached on lots of things that I find discriminatory. “Don’t discuss mental health and neurodivergence, even if they bring it up.” I’m hiring for web dev, accessibility is part of the job. “If they don’t present with confidence, consider passing.” Skills matter more than nervousness.

I have interviewed folk in the past for a position and the HR person wanted us to consider the interviewees communication style during the interview. I am not going to filter candidates by inconsequential little style issues during an interview. That is petty and discriminatory.

The dude is simply not living in reality. He’s so in his head that he’s making callbacks to the video game scare of the nineties. Hip hop, ska, and electronic genres made huge inroads with “boys” as a buying demographic in the period. He’s living in a fantasy built to house his misogyny.

I am experiencing the Packer game tonight vicariously through other peoples posts. I feel this is an adequate level of disappointment to endure.

When my ear hurts and has some drainage, I will seek a diagnosis of “ear infection”. Nobody bats an eye. The way our world stigmatizes neurodivergence and mental health meant I never sought a diagnosis for ADHD until I had destroyed my marriage and had nothing left to lose. I’m lucky she stayed.

There is a lot of inspiration I find in online resources from Native people. I should look further into how to connect with communities of Native leather workers. If anyone has recommendations or connections, I would love to hear from you.

Increasingly, though, it seems like every time I explore sustainability or efficiency in leathercraft for the home, I’m stuck with invention and reinvention. It feels like there’s not a lot of online resources for this sort of thing that’s not corporate.

I have ideas for how I might do it, and it involves non-toxic water-based chemical cementing. However, if there’s anyone with knowledge of methods suitable for home shops, I’d rather not completely reinvent the wheel.

Im ending up with a lot of little bits of leather scrap. Plenty of it is vegetable tanned and very compostable as a result. But there’s a mix of other tanning methods and dyes that I don’t want to send right back into the environment. Has anyone ever tried home reconstituting of leather scrap?
