Preorders are incredibly important to a book’s success — even more than you might think! Find more preorder links and get more information on HYPERSCALE from the book’s website: hyperscalebook.com
Preorders are incredibly helpful for authors. If you are buying books to support them, preorders give them an extra boost that can become a snowball. Booksellers look at preorder numbers when they are deciding on things like which titles get the sweet, sweet spot in the window, which are at the top of their website or even just how many copies to stock. They want to pick winners their customers will like, and strong preorders are a predictor of that.

The preorders also all count as first-day sales, so big preorders increase the chance of starting out on a bestseller list, which then leads to more sales and … you can see the snowball.

ruba ghazal’s speech so promising until she starts talking about quebec becoming a sovereign country 🫠

i will be curious to see whether pspp moderates on churchill falls (and alto) now that he actually has to govern and not just be a populist opposition leader.
2521
Paris Marx @parismarx.com · 06/10/2026
goodbye and good riddance to christine frechette. i liked that she was serious about churchill falls, but otherwise the caq is terrible. pq sadly will bring its own slew of challenges, not least of which the constant fights to justify sovereignty and increased pressure on english speakers.
2592
Paris Marx @parismarx.com · 06/10/2026
only good news in quebec is that pspp doesn’t have an absolutely majority. but getting that close on 28% of the vote is insanity. first-past-the-post is not fit for purpose.

it all just feels either very naive or knowingly misleading. i’m convinced quebec solidaire would have better prospects if it dropped the sovereignty charade and just advocated for the rest of its platform.
4392
Paris Marx @parismarx.com · 04/10/2026
it’s also funny because she’s very anti-private healthcare, yet quebec is the province with the most privatization in the country because of a court decision that gives it alone much more latitude to privatize than other canadian provinces have.
1233
Paris Marx @parismarx.com · 04/10/2026
she also asserts an independent quebec should work cooperatively with canada and that should be sufficient for people, as though no one in quebec might feel an identification with canada and feel independence is taking something important from them.
1132
Paris Marx @parismarx.com · 04/10/2026
listened to ruba ghazal on corner booth and her arguments for sovereignty make no sense to me. she says quebec is open to immigrants, but canada isn’t so she feels more welcome in quebec (what?), and seems to feel a quebec constitution can only be drafted along with independence.

“Just 7 percent of Brits think social media is a force for good and around one in three suspect that life would get better if all these sites were erased from the internet tomorrow.” Hard to disagree. Social media is a cancer and its social harms need to be taken seriously.

If you, btw, would like an example of a place where data centres are *actually* being restricted by legislation, go look at Denmark - where they are now last in the grid connection queue, prioritising socially valuable load growth (like electrification, heating, cooling, new homes) first

Denmark Puts Data Centers Last in New Grid Law
Denmark's emergency grid law puts data centers last behind households and green-transition projects, formalizing rationing that began in February 2026.
