From next week, I'll be sitting on the Civil Aviation Bill Committee, where among other things I'll be fighting for my New Clause 08, which would end the scandal of dodgy and inconsistent baggage fees from airlines. Here's a reminder of why it matters:

I had almost 200k followers on Twitter/X. It afforded me a huge platform and with it I got constant offers to appear on stuff and write stuff. I still appear on stuff and write stuff. Difference is I don't waste hours of my life arguing pointlessly with bots and trolls and I'm so much happier

Leaving X has, I'm pretty sure, hit my bookings and career. But it comes at the massive bonus of a) my own mental wellbeing and b) not providing free content for the owner of Starlink:

It's great news that Deliveroo have listened to my calls for tough measures against riders who use illegally modified e-bikes, and will be monitoring riders' speed to better identify perpetrators. In Sutton Town Centre this has been a key ask for a very long time. buff.ly/humzQwF

A lovely impromptu bit of bird-watching the other day when I bumped into John spying the Peregrine Falcons on the High St! I'm not as eagle-eyed as I'd like... It's a real point of pride that Peregrine Falcons nest in our Town Centre and that local heroes like John make sure they're protected.

One of the best bits of my job is the chance to speak in local schools about the importance of getting engaged with politics. Overton Grange was no exception last week. Luckily, young people today are more switched on to the issues that will shape their future than most of us were at their age!

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

A thing I pushed for - unsuccessfully - at LibDem Federal Policy Cmte, some years back, was for us to adopt a policy of eliminating Stamp Duty on downsizing and permitting some degree of tax-exemption on the proceeds of such sales being distributed to adult children.

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

Latest team out on the doors in Holborn and St Pancras supporting Patrick Stillman today. So many soft Green voters saying they can no longer vote for Zack, and are backing Patrick to stand up to the terrible Labour Council, and be a part of a real opposition group of 70+ LD MPs in Parliament.

Badenoch is partly right: the opposition has won the argument. Just not hers. It's Lib Dem ideas, values and priorities that are winning the day and shaping the conversation. Meanwhile, the Tories look further backwards. My take on conference season: buff.ly/jgatLsa

Kemi’s right; the opposition have won the argument. Just not hers.
Conference season has proven that the Lib Dems are the only party with a serious plan to change politics, change lives and change the nation.

When I visited the Nova music festival site, the impact of October 7th hit home. Three years on, the violence continues, and we have seen an appalling rise in antisemitism here and around the world. We must stand with the Jewish community, stamp out antisemitism, and work for a lasting peace.

Badenoch has spent half her conference making unfunded promises, and half lecturing the country on fiscal responsibility. We’re all still paying the price for Conservative financial mismanagement. Liberal Democrats will act as the firewall stopping her handing No 10 to Farage.

Just another gimmick from a party with no credibility on defence. £10bn wouldn't even touch the sides for a complete UK-wide 'Iron Dome'. The Tories need to review their dodgy sums or be honest about which parts of the country their Patchwork Dome wouldn’t cover. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

On the doorsteps of Hampstead & Highgate, I hear first-hand the concerns about antisemitism in our community. The Green Party motion will leave many Jewish people feeling less safe. We must build cohesion and tackle antisemitism and Islamophobia, not deepen division. I fully endorse this statement.

The motion passed at Green Party Conf' actively undermines a 2-state solution, and does not address the rising threats of Islamophobia and Antisemitism here in the UK. This is a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK, and will leave many British Jews feeling less safe.

What a mess. Should Andy Burnham have been more curious about what was happening at Man City during his time as Mayor, or was there a policy of not looking the Middle Eastern gift horse in the mouth? Any intervention from Burnham now on sanctions for Man City would be unforgivable.
