goooood morning it’s another cloudy gross one, cool but dry and gray - and we had a marvelously sociable loop, greeting several dogs we hadn’t seen in awhile and visiting a couple of neighbor ladies so yes, it’s true: Lucy Loved That Walk

Annihilation always makes Halloween lists, so I thought I'd do a thread of creepy reads. Starting today with a flat-out modern masterpiece, Max Lury's No Ghosts. Thoroughly contemporary and disturbing grounded in deep characterization, and, in part, outdoing Back Rooms while also its own thing. 1

Around Portland, showing Johannes Helden around, a really interesting Swedish multimedia environmental artist who now kinda loves the McMenamins vibe. Plus the urban walks and all the fruit trees and gardens. Etc et al.

this, thanks. also SF core readership thinks of itself as a community, is smaller than the general readershop, and thus reaching them through SF news outlets is easier to alert to a new book.

Voyager 1 is running on less memory than a single photo in your camera roll—69 KB. Its data is saved to an 8-track tape & software was developed when "the cloud" was in the sky. NASA sends commands and the old thing answers. And yet your brand new laptop freezes because you opened too many tabs.

Last week was prep and today is first day of shooting on Fog City. My bestie is in San Francisco for a couple of months on the grip crew. He told me some of the antique cars have been fitted with electric motors. Smart!
A foggy morning in San Francisco where a movie crew has set up. Orange cones, giant light diffusion, old timey cars. Its fun to watch from the outside, but its a grueling job to be on a movie crew. Long hours, very little rest. Takes a toll on your body. I always stay for the credits when I go to the movies. Everyone below the line who gets paid hourly deserves my attention and thanks.

I dunno, possibly. But we did 30 zoom events with in convo partners like David Duchovny and Lili Taylor. So maybe partly that but also at first some percentage of reader reviews indicated they wanted a more SF element and/or Jane to be a better parent lol. Honestly, I have no idea why, though.

Well, readers, you've done it: Even the one novel of mine that really tanked, Hummingbird Salamander, has now earned out its pretty large advance. Absolution earned out when it hit trade paperback, and the Ambergris reissues are selling very well. Thank you very much. Extremely grateful.
