This is really good. It is precisely the lack of this kind of clear-speaking condemnation within the Green party that makes me nervous about its future.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

What these guys did was bigger than Brexit. They showed how you could produce work of an academic quality and distribute it through the media, to improve the standard of national debate. I wish more organisations would learn from what was accomplished here.

So true. It's also the exact opposite effect to the Tories' other (more sensible) plan to get rid of stamp duty. Mangling the housing market just after adopting a policy which might help rationalise it.

Speech changes nothing. It's telling that Badenoch aimed it at the hall more than the country. Think she'll have done more than enough to keep Tory membership on side - they'll love all the tax cuts and (contradictory) talk of fiscal rectitude.

NEW - Kemi Badeoch says there will be no inheritance tax to pay ever on a family home. Interested to know how this affects the housing market. Asset-rich pensioners just got a huge (extra) incentive not to downsize.

Right, so the money shot is that no-one pays inheritance tax on the family home, plus couples can leave an additional million quid tax-free. We'll want to see the sums on that, this is not my area of expertise, but I presume that's the vast majority of inheritance tax revenue gone.

The one thing which will save her is a financial crash It wouldn't strictly be Labour's fault and I don't see that Tory policies would solve it, but that wouldn't matter. I'm sure her message would resonate much more strongly in that context. Outside of it, I think she's fucked.

Insofar as there is an argument, it is that 80s-era Thatcherism -- strict fiscal and social conservatism - still has all the answers. This is... fine? I much prefer it to the kind of Ribena nativism the Tories have flirted with recently. But it is very tired.

Apart from the Reform section, where it really came alive, this is a rambling standard-issue conference speech: a meander through various policy areas, without any core argument or narrative through-line. Confusing given she's supposedly been working on her book all summer.
