Join us today (Thursday 1 Oct) for #PalacesandGardens theme of #ItsAJungleOutThere Celebrate glorious abundance of greenery, architecture, interior decor and decorative features. Remember more is more! Bring on your maximalism! More ideas in Queen Sabine's fabulous poster below. #EastCoastKin

Poster for the #PalacesandGardens
photography challenge on Thursday, 1 October 2026, with the theme #ItsAJungleOutThere.

The poster uses a softly faded photograph of the richly decorated organ in St Catherine's Church in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, as its background. The view looks upward into the lofty church interior. An enormous Baroque organ case rises through the centre and left of the picture, densely ornamented with dark wood, gilded carvings, sculpted figures and ranks of silver-grey organ pipes. Pale vaulted ceilings and reddish architectural arches surround it. The extravagant profusion of pipes, sculpture and gilded decoration visually echoes the week's theme of abundance and "more is more."

Large dark-blue lettering at the top reads:

#PalacesandGardens
Thursday, 1 October 2026

Theme: #ItsAJungleOutThere

The challenge invitation reads:
"Find your perfect jungle:"
Three suggested photographic subtopics follow:
*Into the Thicket
*Crowded at the Top
*The Jungle Within

Across the bottom, in very large blue lettering, the poster says:
"Everyone is welcome."

The hashtag #ECK appears in the lower-right corner.

The overall effect is warm, ornate and deliberately abundant: the elaborate historic organ itself serves as an example of the challenge's central idea-finding scenes where nature, architecture, collections or decoration become wonderfully crowded and exuberant.

Macro of a paper wasp peeking out through a layered opening in thick green leaves. Viewed from a head-on perspective, the insect is nestled deep within the foliage with only its upper torso and head clearly visible. Its prominent yellow-and-black striped face and dark, segmenting antennae face directly forward, while its large compound eyes are locked in a sharp, crisp focus. The dramatic orange tones of its antennae contrast warmly against the cool tones of the surrounding leaves. The foreground and background foliage melt into a cinematic, soft green depth of field blur.

🇬🇧 English: A high-contrast black and white photograph, captured from a worm's-eye view, looking straight up against a bright, uniform sky. The dark, ornamental stem of a classical lamppost stands in the foreground. At its peak, a single, glowing glass orb burns with intense light. Perfectly positioned directly behind the lamp, the dark, radiating fronds of a palm tree fan out symmetrically, creating a silhouette that mimics a dramatic solar eclipse with a glowing corona.

...There were about 12 hours left until the eclipse. The atmosphere already felt different, as if light itself were seeking refuge. This capture, though static on paper, holds the essence of a transitional moment that seems to redefine reality. A suspended instant where artificial light mimics the intensity of the solar corona that was yet to come.

Morning #BlueSky ☕️ Welcome to the Mediterranean climate of a golden November in Malta & the impressive Parish Church of St Paul's Shipwreck. Have a beautiful day friends ☺️ #ECK #Photography #PalacesAndGardens #MellowYellow #ColorADay #YellowThu #Malta #PhotographyOfBlueSky #PhotographersOfBlueSky

Our photograph captures the Collegiate Parish Church of St Paul's Shipwreck, a historic Baroque church located in Valletta, Malta.

The building is renowned for its connection to Saint Paul and its distinctive Maltese architectural heritage.

Dominating the image is the church's magnificent golden limestone façade, illuminated by bright sunlight against a breathtaking, deep cobalt-blue sky.

The warm, honey-coloured stone creates a dramatic contrast with the vivid blue above.
The church's symmetrical façade features two imposing bell towers, each crowned with an ornate stone structure and a metal cross.

Within the open arches of the towers, dark bronze bells can be seen hanging in shadow. Between the towers, a triangular pediment rises above the main body of the church, decorated with subtle stonework.

The façade is richly detailed with classical columns, carved pilasters, ornamental scrolls, sculpted figures, and circular decorative medallions.

Three substantial doorways occupy the lower level. The central entrance is particularly elaborate, framed by intricate stone carvings and crowned with a sculpted crest.

The darker wooden doors contrast beautifully with the pale limestone.

To the left, an adjoining historic building extends into the frame, displaying arched windows, decorative balconies, and additional architectural details.

A narrow glimpse of the surrounding street and neighbouring structures adds depth to the composition.

The sunlight creates strong contrasts between the brightly illuminated upper façade and the deeper shadows along the lower sections, emphasising the church's sculptural details and historic character.

The photograph celebrates the architectural beauty of St Paul's Shipwreck Church, where Malta's golden limestone, religious heritage, and brilliant Mediterranean light combine to create a truly impressive scene.

And finally our picture today is finished with a simple white border frame.
