#Sofia 🇧🇬 to #Belgrade 🇷🇸 in June 2010. The consist includes a Serbian #ŽS #ЖС seat car and a Bulgarian #BDŽ #БДЖ sleeper to #Vienna 🇦🇹 via #Budapest 🇭🇺. Beautiful scenery as we approach #Niš. The train is hauled by a Class 661 diesel here. Wooden giraffes and other bulky items travel in the vestibule.

Seen earlier today on the #SBB🇨🇭#Gotthard line: an #SBBhistoric excursion train. The short consist included the red lightweight #DiningCar #WR700 from 1958 and was hauled by an #Re6/6 #Re620 electric. When they were built in the 1970s, these locos were among the world’s most powerful locomotives.

My first ride on Etihad Rail is on this CAF unit from #AbuDhabi to #Dubai in the 2+2 layout Comfort / Second Class 🚆 This 1 hour trip starts from just €9.50 and even includes food, water & coffee! 🇦🇪 The ride quality is somewhat bumpy, but everything else is comfortable enough! #NonstopEurotrip

Neu ab 1.11.: 2 tägliche Zugpaare Baku🇦🇿 - Tbilisi 🇬🇪, künftig gibt es nebem dem Nachtzug auch ein Zugpaar tagsüber. Leider mWn nach wie vor nicht von Leuten mit 🇪🇺-Pass benutzbar.

#İzmir 🇹🇷 #Alsancak station in June 2010. A #TCDD overnight service has arrived from #Ankara, hauled by a Class DE22000 diesel. Engineer and Conductor are shaking hands. This is what railwaymen and -women do in many countries, at the beginning or the end of a shift, wishing each other safe travels.

Good bullar don't grow on trees, especially not where I live. The price to get one is travelling 1000 km north on rather unreliable lines. Trick No 1 is to cross Germany by night: Delay is less bad, if it means more sleep. First time in the new NJ sleeper, and I like it. #HullerOmBullar

I have no idea what a smart mug is, but they indeed paid attention to detail for the new X2000 interior design. As usual with SJ Snabbtåg, there is no ticket check as long as you're sitting on your reserved seat, so it is a very quiet ride up the Västra Stambanan to Katrineholm. #HullerOmBullar

The Snälltåget service to Oslo is an entire rake of former DB carriages. To my great delight including "Krogen", the train's @diningcar.at, which is one of the peculiar former German IR Bistros. Breakfast time! 😋 Preordered breakfast includes a cheese sandwich and a Kanelbulle! #HullerOmBullar

On the #Brussels 🇧🇪 to #Milan 🇮🇹 #EuropeanSleeper 🇪🇺 today, a “test” ride inside Switzerland. Hauled by a Class (6)193 #Beacon #Vectron, it includes couchettes, an iconic ex “Type P” stainless steel sleeper, and a “Bimz” seat car with opening windows, still displaying its light blue #InterRegio livery.

Last night on an #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #Graz to #Vienna domestic #InterCity. The train included #SBB🇨🇭#EuroCity #Transalpin cars. Originating in #Zurich, they were (re-)used for a Vienna round trip. As a consequence, the #DiningCar was Swiss, the crew and the menu Austrian. Enjoyed a Wiener Schnitzel for dinner.

#Lupoglav 🇭🇷 is a major stop on the #Istria railway line to #Pula, and still a quiet place this afternoon. A single #HŽPP Class 7122 railcar is awaiting further duties. Built in 1980 by #Fiat, this unit originally served as #SJ 🇸🇪 Class #Y1. This is why it’s nicknamed “Šveđanin” by local railfans.

I’ve a soft spot for these venerable AB30 sleeping-cars. Built in 1956 as P-types with 20 duplex single compartments, completely rebuilt in the 1990s with a more conventional 10-compartment layout usable as single double or triple. Only European sleeping car in stainless steel.

"Someone's sitting there!" My seat for the 20 minutes under the sea. On a eurostar train, both Train Managers have to sit in the vestibule of the extreme coaches for the duration of the Channel Tunnel transit. It means that we are in position should an evacuation be necessary.

A tip-up seat and notice asking to vacate if requested.

Between two #trams, there’s always a bar, or the “Bar alla Tramvia” at #Opicina 🇮🇹, for that matter. This is the upper terminus of the line climbing up here from #Trieste. Both are just wonderful, the tram with its #funicular section, and the bar. Highly recommended!

Some more impressions of today’s #Gailtalbahn 🇦🇹 ride on board an ex #ÖBB Class 5081 #Schienenbus. There’s an hourly S-Bahn service between #Villach and #Hermagor. Further up, there’s only some very occasional timber traffic. On a section of the line, you can also travel on a railbike.
