there are lots of things i love about my HSD, but i have to be honest that this feature is probably THE reason i chose it over all the other options. i’m a renter with no safe place to store it other than inside my living space. being able to stand it upright makes a huge difference!

yesterday my colleagues from @cascade.org and i provided a free bike valet to world cup fans in seattle. we had more than 170 bikes in our corral (and expect even more on friday). when you take people who are just genuinely happy because they’re on bikes and add it to the joy of the world cup,

the triple whammy of terrible bike parking: wave rack (hate it) too close to the sidewalk not actually at my destination, home depot, but rather all the way over at the police station. why doesn’t home depot have a place for bikes to park?!

i got to #volunteerbybike again today using my @ternbicycles.com HSD. this time with A Cleaner Alki to do a community cleanup in my neighborhood. filled up a few bags and hauled in a tire. the collective impact is great to see!

i have (mostly) finished the assembly on a bike i’ve been dreaming of for a few years. yesterday i added the shockstop suspension seatpost and stem. i’ll need to do some fine tuning, but i can already say these were excellent choices! i’m not racing anymore and need to be kinder to my body.

on my ride to work this morning, my front wheel hit a patch of ice and i hit the deck. not good. but on my ride home, i got to experience a portion of the new bike path along seatttle’s waterfront. i’ll skip the cynicism about its design (which is all valid) and just say it was quite nice.

walking out of the u-district light rail station, i noticed this. i’m thinking @typewriteralley.bsky.social can help me understand what is required of the public space in order to get the building rights. doesn’t seem like much that’s genuinely useful to the public.

i have no kids and have found my short tail cargo bike is the only way i’ll go to costco anymore. (front door parking) it’s perfect for scooping up a side table that was put out at the curb. can haul heavy loads up the hills in seattle for work. and can be parked upright to save space in my home.

the Pedaling Relief Project uses volunteers on bikes to deliver groceries from the food bank to clients at their homes. i love the way we’re using bikes as “last mile delivery” to help our neighbors.

this week i attended the Action Mapping Project Symposium at UW Tacoma. i’m so excited to dive more into this data from tacoma’s youth to learn more about where they feel safe, what routes they avoid, where they hang out, and so much more.
