there are lots of things i love about my HSD, but i have to be honest that this feature is probably THE reason i chose it over all the other options. i’m a renter with no safe place to store it other than inside my living space. being able to stand it upright makes a huge difference!

for two ebikes, but still far cheaper than a car. not to mention the cost of parking a car in cities like seattle and the general stress and misery that comes with driving. if seattle could get a permanent bike valet like they have in victoria, bc i think it would be a huge benefit to the city!

yesterday my colleagues from @cascade.org and i provided a free bike valet to world cup fans in seattle. we had more than 170 bikes in our corral (and expect even more on friday). when you take people who are just genuinely happy because they’re on bikes and add it to the joy of the world cup,

i don’t have much of an opinion on class 1 v 2 v 3. class 3 doesn’t have to have a throttle (mine doesn’t) and it still takes a lot of effort on the part of the peddler to even come close to 28 mph. throttles can be really helpful. and any of these e-bikes are significantly different from e-motos.

at this point, i think the answer is mostly “because my friends are.” that was the case with my friend’s son who desperately wanted an emoto. i was brought in to “consult” and talk him through the pitfalls. his folks stayed strong and got him a class 1 cannondale and all reports are that he loves it

it was a myopic understanding of the bicycle and my limited utilization. i’m now on my third different cargo e-bike and ride it ~3000 miles a year. i recommend e-bikes to anyone who will listen and have not a care in the world as to why someone wants one. just get it!

i am embarrassed to admit that “cheating” once came out of my mouth regarding e-bikes. i was younger and had a more limited view of bikes, based on my usage, which was just for fitness. i wasn’t commuting and wanted any additional ease to come from getting stronger/more fit.

i picked up some woodworking supplies today and as i was locking up my bike i looked across the street and saw gas prices (i live in seattle) and was absolutely shocked! i’m so appreciative of being so out of touch with the price of gas.

i feel this so hard. sometimes i get frustrated because futzing with my locks and getting my bike positioned just right at the rack feels harder than pushing “lock” on my car key fob, but errands on a bike is really the best thing.
