April might be over, but I still got a loot of gaps to fill. #Dataviz for #30DayChartChallenge Day9 - Wealth. Who has savings? 💷💷💷 Young people are least likely to have a lot of savings. But even as people age, there's still a notable proportion of older people who have very little.
A heatmap showing the proportion of UK adults in each age group by savings amount. Younger adults (18–24) are more likely to have little or no savings, with 27% holding £1–£1k. Older adults show a clear shift toward higher savings: those aged 75+ are most likely to hold £100k–£250k (19%) or £250k+ (18%). The darkest cells highlight where each age group is most concentrated. The median age of astronauts increased by 11 years between the 1960s and 2010s. This reflects a shift from the era of young military test pilots to modern crews of seasoned commanders and specialized scientists. #30DayChartChallenge | Day 25 - Space #ggplot2
A jitter plot with the age of astronauts in the year of their missions, grouped by decade. The x axis shows decades from the 1960s to 2010s. The y axis shows age from 20 to 80. The age of each astronaut is represented by a dot. A bright yellow dot marks the median (central point) of the age distribution in each decade:
- 1960s: 36 years
- 1970s: 40 years
- 1980s: 41 years

Today is World Press Freedom Day, observed to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press. The conditions for journalists vary considerably between OECD countries Here’s an update on the chart I shared on day 6 of the #30DayChartChallenge with 2026 data.
A dot plot, each OECD country’s freedom of the press score is plotted on a horizontal axis ranging from 25 to 100. Norway ranks first with 93, Türkiye last with 28.
Color indicates the press freedom classification: 7 countries with a good situation, 20 satisfactory, 7 problematic, 3 difficult, 1 very serious. A smaller grey dot indicates the value from the previous year (biggest developments mentioned in the post).

Most wealth mobility occurs in the middle of the wealth distribution in Germany. (April is officially over, but I have a few more ideas - and missing categories - to be shared.) #30DayChartChallenge | Day 17 - Remake #dataviz
A chart with 2 graphs. First, a flow diagram which shows the movement between wealth quintiles between 2 survey waves in 2011 (left bar) and 2023 (right bar). The size of the streams between these stacked bars are sized proportionally to the share of households which moved between the connected segments. As the post implies, most movement happes in the 2nd to 4th quintile, while the 5th and highest quintile as well as the 1st/lowest quintile remain rather stable. The second part is a matrix showing the percentage values for each combination of 2011 and 2023 quintile.

The U.S. shows a steep increase in "Total Health Spending," rising from approximately USD14,000 to $25,000. Germany's total spending rises from roughly $8,000 to $12,000. For both countries, the government contribution line remains significantly lower, ending at around $10,000 in the U.S. and $8,500 in Germany.

Ridgeline chart showing the distribution of monthly global temperature anomalies by decade from the 1950s to the 2020s, with a single burgundy color scale: lighter shades represent earlier decades, and darker shades represent more recent ones. Each curve's width encodes variability. The 1950s and 1960s show wide, symmetric distributions centered near the 1951-1980 baseline of zero, while later decades show narrower distributions shifted to the right. The 2010s and 2020s curves, rendered in near-black oxblood, sit almost entirely above +0.5°C, showing that month-to-month uncertainty persists but the underlying warming signal has become consistent. A dashed vertical line marks the zero baseline. Two annotations frame the uncertainty-to-signal transition: "Wide = more uncertain" on the left and "Shifted right = persistent warmth" on the right. Title reads: "When warmth stops looking exceptional." Data source: NASA GISS Surface Temperature Analysis (GISTEMP v4).

For China, India, and the United States, projections for 2030 emissions under current policies and NDC pledges remain well above levels required for 1.5°C alignment. China’s emissions stay near current levels, far from the steeper cuts needed. India’s emissions rise under its pledge, instead of declining as required. The United States shows declines, but not enough to meet either its fair share or domestic 1.5°C pathways. Across all three, the gap between pledged action and required reductions remains large. A line chart titled "2 500 kr by 2050?" showing the Uppsala public transport monthly pass price from 2014 to 2050. Black dots mark observed annual prices, rising from 790 kr in 2014 to 1 150 kr in 2026. A log-linear trend line, solid through 2026 and dashed for the projection, follows the observed data closely and extends to around 2 500 kr by 2050. A widening confidence band shows increasing uncertainty further into the projection. Source: UNT, UL.
