The real worry is not the next two years, but the 2-4 after that. These rich landowners also passed laws that helped to prevent socializing and marriage between races. So important to understand how systemic racism stems partly from the wealthy trying to keep poor whites from blaming the rich and instead blame people of other races for their economic situation.

Fascinating read. HCR writes how the rich landowners of the 1600's, who were trying to keep everyone from wealth, eventually allowed indentured whites to vote and own land, thus keeping them from wanting to organize with Blacks and Indians to gain land and power. 🧵
