This week’s #knitting #wip — started some socks because the cardigan I’ve been working on is too big to travel. These are Citrouilles d’Halloween by Ingrid Baudine. Kept the lifeline in the cuff because I’m a little unsure on the gauge with my colorwork and went up a bit in needle size this time.

I mean sure, but as a field, libraries are notoriously bad at saying “no.” There’s a reason mission creep runs rampant in it. We struggle with confrontation and boundaries. I think that comes into play here, too. It’s not right — but it is what it is and the field must have a reckoning around this.

Nothing like having a teen girl stop you in your tracks to tell you your dress* is “really pretty.” Reader, she had very cool earrings and her taste could clearly be trusted. Flattery of the year for me! *It’s a basic, shapeless black dress with a slim keyhole. Nthg special but comfy for heat.

I negotiated higher salary (didn’t get what I asked for but got more than initially offered) and a late start date. Tried, too, to negotiate for higher rate of leave accrual to start at, but didn’t get any traction with that. It was reasonable to ask because the system already paid less than peers.

I don’t recall if you’ve posted about Hannah Cyrus’s efforts — I took her training and while it boils down to avoiding AI for easy promotion, she takes a more nuanced and real-world-realistic approach in training. I think you’ll find some useful gems there for this context if she does another 1/

McD’s is just a rando example, of course. And also, the corporate bigs who would have to pay their staff for a “day off” would lobby against it for the day of pay, loss of revenue for the day, and likely shift left as a result of more votes, and they already have outsized influence in legislation.

Probably. But the gen culture wouldn’t love the idea of McD’s closed for something as, in their mind, frivolous as voting day and if more people had easier access to vote, elections would likely move left and the Rs won’t abide that. Since Rs tend to put up a fight when Ds won’t, it won’t happen.

It seems to stay on fairly well, but I think it partly depends on the yarn I’m using? Not all 80 wool / 20 nylons are the same IME. I like shadow wrap short rows because they’re easy to do (IMO, easier than heel flap and gusset — I hate picking up stitches) and they seem to fit my foot well.
