If you were living in Europe in the 1580s and 90s, you would likely have heard a few herring prophecies from Norway. Fishes with words about evil, fighting knights symbolizing the Ottoman conflicts of the Habsburg monarchy etc. appeared, and they all predicted something about the state of the world.

People tell me they like suits but don't have occasions to wear one. You can wear a suit to court, funerals, and religious services. Doesn't have to be your trial, friend's burial, or religion you believe in. Go to random trials, attend a stranger's burial, join multiple religions. Try it sometime.

Early Byzantine ambos in Nicaea (modern İznik) An ambo, the pulpit of churches, was typically an elevated platform with stairs in the Early Byzantine/Late Roman era. The fragments of ambos in Nicaea belong the elevated platform and once had stairs leading down on each side.

Whilst preparing for Discover: Museum Wonders, we found this hiding in our collections: three lobsters dressed as Victorian gentlemen, arranged in an extraordinarily detailed miniature drawing room scene in a glazed case.
A close-up of a miniature diorama showing an anthropomorphic lobster claw figure seated indoors, wearing fabric clothing and holding a cane, with a small bird figure on the floor nearby. The lobster claw sits beside a table with stacked books and small objects, set against patterned wallpaper with a painted window scene, framed portraits, a hanging violin, and a small Union Jack flag on the wall. The interior includes textured furnishings, a draped chair, and carefully detailed miniature accessories within a boxed display.

Misty eerie city landscape as seen from the Thames Foreshore this morning. The river wasn’t giving much today but as I was leaving I found a nice little marble spot. Smaller clay marbles were used for industrial purposes, sometimes with a trace of colour on them indicating their use in paint mixing.
Misty murky view of the skyscrapers in the City of London, their tops shrouded in cloud. The Tower of London is viewed from Tower Bridge, their tops shrouded Thames a grey green today. View of the Thames downstream this morning on a gloomy, misty murky day. The tide is going out revealing an ancient foreshore with timbers and broken slabs of stone. Three small clay marbles, brown and cream, seen in my black gloved hand. A marble fest from the foreshore this morning. Four small clay marbles, a glass swirly marble and a larger stone marble that might have been part of a Victorian carpet boules set.

In fact, the weirdest part: sustained purring doesn't require *brain involvement at all*. There are fibrous pads in the throat (plica vocalis) that are set in motion by an impulse, then SELF-SUSTAIN the purring until the breathing pattern stops. It's "flow-induced self-sustained oscillation" 🧪😸
