And any Marine did carry put such an atrocity and the law was changed so they were not prosecuted in the UK They would still be liable to arrest, prosecution and imprisonment in many countries they may want to visit.

If the countries in the list are imposing sanctions on nations buying and selling Russian oil. And USA is buying Russian oil. Does that mean that those countries will sanction USA ?

If you have a tanker available and in the right place. It takes at least 21 days to ship Diesel from Russia to USA. Doesn't that put price relief beyond the date of the midterms ?

Isn't there a risk in our " Market based " energy system that if OCGTs lose the sub 4 hour business they are no longer economically viable and won't be there for extended use ? Time to nationalise gas so its availability can be managed better ?

They need to make it simpler so ordinary people can understand. Banks etc need to be more helpful. They also need to increase the time limits and make the clock start from the granting of probate not death. Oh and ban solicitors creating wills that make them the only possible executors.

Russia has been gradually stepping up its information warfare efforts against the UK for over a decade. Brexit was one of their first experiments. Burnham is setting up a new unit to fight Russian disinformation. Farage smears it as a "Ministry of Truth". The pieces are all there if you look.

Considering Burnham's attack on Russian disinformation at the UN, maybe we should take another look at this damning verdict on the (old) government's corrupt investigation into Russian influence during the Brexit ref. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

I remember a long ago lecture where it was explained that concepts such as Shares, LTD companies, Pooled risk (Insurance) and Fractional reserve banking had allowed the great leap forward in innovation, shared wealth etc in 1700- 1900. Today these things just allow the rich to rob the rest of us.

I am optimistic that we will see developments that make electric planes widespread in the next 20 years. Electric Train investment would make more sense, but we dont seem good as a country at making that work.

These fines seem way too small. These people have assets - they can afford expensive cars - so much larger fines. The income from which to be hypothecated for increased roads policing.

Systems can exchange data. There are other questions on the SA system that ask for data to be entered that HMRC have sent out on notice of coding. I suspect its about not caring about tax payers inconvenience. Private pensions and Bank interest could be populated from data already sent to HMRC.

Of course you could ask why the HMRC online system doesn't just populate the state pension figures itself. But anyway you get my point. Self Assesment is so user unfriendly that getting pensioners to needlessly go through it will just result in error, Complaints and non compliance.

David @1daveymo.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Good. Getting state pensioners to complete Self Assesment will mean getting them to understand things like "However, if you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2010 and 6 April 2024 falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, the increase is calculated at 52 times the new rate."

The legislation is on it's way through parliament. It should be changed to apply retrospectively from Yesterday and also enhanced to stop all sorts of other shenanigans. Any money already sent should be returned or donated to the RNLI

Christopher Harbourne has matched Ben Delo’s £36 million donation to Reform. This is unprecedented. Andy Burnham could have stopped this but instead he choose to let Reform threaten democracy itself. Will be discussing on @lbc.co.uk from 6pm.

Good report. smaller business definitely need exempting. Especially as smaller business tend to pay taxes on their profits in UK - large chains tend to move profits and therefore tax liability abroad ( Using things like brand licencing fees and loan interest)

Hydrogen and carbon capture are dead or almost dead ends. Geothermal would give better return on investment of valuable oil skills. See what Texas in USA is doing with Geothermal. Jobs may not be in Aberdeen tho. Oil workers moves there for work. Now they may need to move.

Just for interest I ran a quick ai query of no of police officers per head of population in Malaga province Spain vs Hampshire. Malaga is 3.5 to 4.5 ing Guardia Civil, National and Local. Hampshire is 1.6

David @1daveymo.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
My bad. Hampshire will have the same issues only 3400 officers. Cleveland force under 1300 where there is much trouble at the moment. I agree. Government need to have a way of dealing but suspect the solution is a big and expensive increase in officer numbers and Prison places for the arrested.

She is a disgrace. As for govt response. Kent police have 4300 officers. Take off sick, holidays, management, CID, shift patterns. Need to deal with other incidents and that's not many police left to deal with an incident like this and protect the people of Portsmouth.

Farage, a man who was doing Cameo videos for £70 a pop as late as March 2026, apparently turned up to a meeting to discuss a half-million donation and "wasn't really listening". What utter contempt he has for the very democracy, country, and people that he claims to love.

Ukraine will never be able to defeat Russia, it doesn't have the capability even with all the tanks and planes the west sent that they can't use because no one knows how to use them properly!
It's takes 2-3 years to learn how to fly those keys and 1-2 years for the tanks!
