I agree that the current method of measuring unemployment is inadequate, but the doesn't particularly mean anything without using the same metric to compare to other countries or past data. I imagine this metric would have been significantly worse during the Great Depression.

Incredible chart from @propublica.org. If you don’t follow enviro stuff closely, your instinct might be that the hold-your-nose solution (carbon capture from fossil fuels) would be the “pragmatic” one versus covering Earth in solar panels, which seems utopian. In fact it’s the opposite

I am under the impression that the far majority of the people who spread the "Skyler is a bitch" meme either do it purely as a joke and the rest have not actually watched the show. Because to make it to the end of that show and still root for Walt makes you inhuman.

I am not a neoliberal, Ayatollah. The capitalism to oligarchy pipeline is certainly real and must be controlled lest it fester into the corruption America sees. But in this specific case, it is quite clear that "increasing prices by decreasing competition" is not the driving factor here.

I know what you are saying, it just doesn't make any sense in this context. You think you are agreeing with me, but this has no relation to economic policy. If you were to place this in the spectrum of economics, this would be quite far from free market.

You'd think this lesson would have been learned 100 times by now. The biggest shitshow was the Chinese break in of US telecommunications infrastructure that, from what I can tell, was never actually fully resolved.

My opinion on that is bsky.app/profile/10na... But even SMR nuclear waste would take up WAAAAAY less space than solar. And yes, nuclear waste is a space issue.
000
Nathan Hedge @10nates.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
Nuclear waste is a complete nonissue, coal just throws that shit in the air, but SMRs do have higher operating costs.

Nathan Hedge @10nates.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
It was a massive mistake of i.e. Germany to shut down its nuclear reactors, but at this point it would be a misappropriation of funds to spend it on nuclear and not solar + battery. Nuclear is ofc still useful in say the more northern latitudes like Sweden or in space constrained areas like Japan.

A photo of vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) floating in the ocean, edited so that its mantle looks like a Santa hat. The vampire squid is surrounded by white specks of marine snow. The vampire squid is a pinkish orange with blue eyes. It's arms are spread out with translucent webbing in between, and its fins are mid flap.

Psychological warfare more than anything. Under a threshold model this won't do anything. Of course the same was true when it exploded, and a lot of abortions of fetuses that were very likely to have been taken to term, suicides, and panic later, we still have the linear no-threshold model globally.
