On this day in 1749, Halifax was founded when Edward Cornwallis arrived with 13 transports and a sloop of war. The settlement was on Mi'kmaq territory, who referred to the area as K'jipuktuk or Chebookt, meaning "Chief Harbour" or "Great Harbour". 🎨 Charles William Jefferys
