By Cory Doctorow (GPG 0xBF3D9110957E5F4C) @doctorow.pluralistic.net · 10/08/2026According to an *Economist* editorial, "AI is breaking the British state" by making it too easy to file complaints, demands and appeals, which will "drown the state" with "demands as well-crafted as a first-class lawyer's": archive.is/VTrj9 1/ 811135

Spooky Snigdha @snig.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Interesting thread. What struck me about that editorial was how they have used AI drafted claims as a very convenient means of justifying rolling back on rights and introducing costs barriers. bsky.app/profile/snig...Spooky Snigdha@snig.bsky.socialThe Economist continues a line of articles on the impact of AI on the British state. Once again, they cite the fact employment tribunal claims are free. They criticise new renter's and worker's rights, and call for ET and FoI fees. The cure is not cost barriers and repealed rights. archive.is/VTrj9 020
anotherbensegal.bsky.social @anotherbensegal.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Lawyer here: Am consistently struck by how bad even purpose-built ai law tools are. It’s not just fake cases but (very frequent) misreadings of real cases that get people in trouble. But AI produces work with the outward gloss of expertise and it is cheap, so the fear of slop overrun is legitimate 5427
Hieronymous Alloy @hieronymous.bsky.social · 10/08/2026This article is valid, but overstated. I do administrative law work in the U.S. We are absolutely flooded with submissions, about twice the rate we saw last year. Those submissions are not "as well crafted as a first-class lawyer's." They're mostly junk. The main difference (1 of 2) 1122
