AW Stiles @awstiles.bsky.social · 22/06/2025We're using a new data management software created for the state of North Carolina and a frequent answer when we hit a problem is "just download the spreadsheet". Mind you this is software that doesn't seem to be anything improved from the 2010s. 090
Mar Hicks @histoftech.bsky.social · 22/06/2025This is the fatal flaw of ai chatbots if we’re being real; not only black boxed but also resistant to replicable results. Which is a feature for those who make money off them but a flaw for everyone else. 615213
Confused Penguin @confusedpenguin.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Team Janet here. Go Janet! (Nothing to do with running several Excel tools covering things that our dashboards do not seem to cover efficiently enough :D) 020
Hogesonline @hogesonline.bsky.social · 23/06/2025I guess you can call me Janet. Or maybe I have an Amanda-stack. 010

E-Something @nullinterface.bsky.social · 22/06/2025Did this once. Relied upon static reference data that required updating on the regular. Documented the F out of it before I walked away; about 100 the successor glanced over the docs but doubt it was ever used again because Excel-as-a-DB don't scale well past the initial designer. 020

Radical Left Lemmasmith @k8bowers.bsky.social · 24/06/2025Lots of opportunity to create fancy reports from our relational databases, but people don’t want the reports. They want the data in a form that they can manipulate, explore, and interrogate themselves. They want a spreadsheet. 010
Gamebird @gamebyrd.bsky.social · 23/06/2025One is beautiful, one is functional. Well. I know which one I'd be using and it's the one that works. 030
RobAtl @scrumrob.bsky.social · 23/06/2025I've been in IT since 1981. I've seen this same type situation over and over. My employer is doing the same thing. The older tech works just fine and is very stable. The new tech generates dozens of support tickets per day, plus new tech has gaping security vulnerabilities like a newborn's immunity. 2100
