Rodger Sherman @rodger.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I’m a little surprised the other 29 owners are on board with the league office letting Ballmer get away with it. Aren’t they mad their richest rival is showing that they could spend more money on their basketball teams if they wanted to? Don’t they want everybody to think the cap is super real??? 202495
Prologue Black @prologueblack.bsky.social · 17/08/2026They'd probably care more if the Clippers won anything worth a damn with it 220

mode9800.bsky.social @mode9800.bsky.social · 18/08/2026This is what I don't get. If the owners don't care about having a salary cap they could get rid of it tomorrow and the players would be perfectly happy. 000
tallpaulor.bsky.social @tallpaulor.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Also - Balmer is well liked by other owners. And everyone hated Donald Sterling. Balmer seems genuinely in love with the game and has spent to improve a moribund team in 2nd largest TV/media market. That helps everyone. 010
tallpaulor.bsky.social @tallpaulor.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Rich people view other rich people as their tribe. They’ve ALL gotten rich by somehow screwing somebody over and they ALL stay rich by protecting themselves and propping up a system that allows them to buy different justice for themselves. No way they’re going to drop that shield. 1120
Scott Tobias @scotttobias.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Plus it really does seem like rival suitors for Kawhi were like, "LOL, no, Uncle Dennis, we're not doing that" and it cost them his services. (Which makes me wonder if they'd be angrier if the Clippers enjoyed the success they expected with him.) 050
Matt Wells - working on Frenzy @mattjwells.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Between them and the hyper-corrupt quickie sale of the Lakers the L.A. franchises are downright embarrassing at the moment. 000
Rodger Sherman @rodger.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Agreed on the general premise. BUT! In this case, Ballmer is the one interfering with the method of screwing others over. The salary cap is a system to artificially depress player wages! Why would they let anybody mess it up? Now they’re going to be expected to pay their employees more money!@tallpaulor.bsky.social@tallpaulor.bsky.socialRich people view other rich people as their tribe. Twenty Thousand Thorns @20000thorns.bsky.social · 17/08/2026It's not about the money, directly. It's about the power. Favoring certain players with under-the-table deals drives a wedge into labor and undermines the CBA in a way that is favorable to ownership. 010
LorecorE @lore-core.bsky.social · 17/08/20262 explanations: 1. they also have done and want to be able to do the same thing themselves. 2. they don't care about anything as long as their team valuations continue increasing 0180
Trill Walton🌹💀🌹 @terrence.bsky.social · 17/08/2026The same thing would happen in the NFL. The only side they’re willing to take is that of the owners. If any of them broke rank, they’d have a target on their back. 000
Abimbola @chopeski.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I’m not sure they’ll let Ballmer get away Scott free, they’ll probably try to get him on a lesser offense with nothing more than a slap on the wrist I.e. a $50m fine - which for Ballmer is a little less than a rounding error. 000
Aaron Biship @bishipaaron.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I’m such a sucker. I actually believed justice would be served here. 000
Robert Baker @kerba1123.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Question: how much of this was "well, if we look at him for this, we'll have to look at EVERYONE for this" and they have some skeletons in their own closets they don't want getting sunlight? 100
Deadhead111 @deadhead111.bsky.social · 17/08/2026lol, the league starting looking and likely realized it was common place, others likely doing it too, probably didn't want open a can of worms 030
