When asked at our city council meeting whether new growth is causing more power outages, Hydro Ottawa CEO said, “It’s not the growth, it’s the squirrels.”

There's also the urban legend that when a transformer on a pole blows, they toss a dead squirrel inside so its now "act of god" and off the hook for claims from customers over zapped appliances and electronics.

Just had a cable guy tell us, “It’s the squirrels. they’ve eaten through both wires. We’ll have to replace.” 😡 It’s always the squirrels!!

Why are they allowing squirrels to get Hydro Ottawa accounts? How do they get the appliances into their little nests? How do they pay their bills? What a boondoggle! (I'm not being serious.)

A big gray squirrel blew the power on my parent’s block out a few years back when it decided to jump onto a powerline and make contact with something else at the same. Poof went the squirrel, out went the power.

As I mentioned to Councillor Gower, I think we can accommodate humans and squirrels safely. :-)

If it’s not the squirrels, it’s the trees. Who would have guessed the trees would grow outside their “growing zone” and make contact with the wires.

My mom on Castlehill legit saw a squirrel get toasted on the hydro line and subsequently lost power for 6 hours… that was a unique Sunday.
