Pavel @spavel.bsky.social · 23/03/2024The so called paradox of tolerance is resolved when you see tolerance as a social contract: if you break the contract, you are no longer party to it. Simple as. 16990207
Padraig2112 @isomorphism.net · 23/03/2024It amazes me how many of these fans of Western philosophy haven't read any of it. 2470
Thomas Edmund @thomasedmund.bsky.social · 23/03/2024I figure sarcasm solves the "paradox" of tolerance quite well - oH wOw not tolerating the intolerant WHAT an insolvable and challenging conundrum with no solutions whatsoever either than admitting our own hYpOcrIsY. Goodness. 000
Elf M. Sternberg @elfsternberg.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Yes! Tolerance is NOT a principle! Tolerance is a tactic. The principle is civilization. If you're not willing to participate in the ongoing project of widening civilization to include "everyone or no one," then you don't deserve tolerance. 0231
HazelTheWitch (Commissions Open) @hazelthewitch.bsky.social · 23/03/2024"By tolerating the intolerant, we are allowing more intolerance than if we simply didn't tolerate it" is how I've always heard it go. 0120
gary bjusey. @jm6k.bsky.social · 23/03/2024you can also resolve it pretty simply by saying "i won't accept intolerance" instead of using 'tolerance' twice. 0140
Filigree 'Cranky Science Witch' @filigreemchana.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Hear, hear. Break the compact, step outside its protection. 000
Jeannie (Jay) Marschall 🍇🫐🍏🍋🍊🍓 @jeanniemarschall.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Yeah, I'm amazed at the continued use of "paradox" here. Replace 'tolerance' with ANY OTHER agreement & it's very, very plain: If you keep punching the other people in the deal, you will be kicked out. Using "paradox" just helps the punchers repeat their wailing over & over. 260
KisseMjölk @kissemjolk.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Indeed. I also don’t believe in physical violence, but if you come at me with physical violence, then I will defend myself. 000
saveamerica.bsky.social @saveamerica.bsky.social · 23/03/2024As a brother of a transgender man, they are people. My brother is much happier after having transitioned. I remember him fighting our Mom decades ago when she would try to dress my bro in dresses and he hated it and fought her over it. He was 5. Tell me this isn’t something from birth! 020
mdb - just this guy, you know? @42.computer · 23/03/2024See Also: Tolerance is a peace treaty, if someone breaks a peace treaty you don’t lie down and die, you defend yourself accordingly. 050
Rahadyan T. S. (he/him) @rtsastro2023.bsky.social · 24/03/2024I'm going to begin reframing tolerance as just that. Thank you very much! 000
fursona.org @fursonaorg.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Only sociopaths think that other people should be required to listen to their lies and quietly nod and go along with it. 000
Stop Calling Me Frank @stopcallingmefrank.bsky.social · 23/03/2024As a wingnut gotcha, it’s right up there with “You’re the real racist for pointing out my racism” and “So why can’t we have a white student union?” 1130
