Looking at the illustrations Alice and Martin Provensen did for the Iliad and the Odyssey in 1956 and taking pleasure in noting how diverse they made that world. Everyone bitching about the new movie’s casting is more racist than a children’s book publicist in *1956*

Thanks for posting this! I had that book as a very young child and loved the illustrations. Over the years, it went the way of other childhood things, but I got a copy on Ebay a few years back. Wanted to see it again. It's magnificent.

Also I was reading the book I have about them (The Art of Alice and Martin Provensen) and thinking about how really, the reason they were able to have such a rich and long career in children’s books, as well as what sounds like a magical personal life on their small farm, is they were paid well

I read their myths and legends book 1000 times growing up and still have my childhood copy. I remember noticing as a small child that Andromeda was drawn with darker skin.

I own this book! I got it from my uncle for my 9th birthday in 1964 and it's always been my favorite version of the stories, mainly because of the wonderful illustrations.
