Down Here For Your Soul @bombsfall.bsky.social · 30/10/2024The 00's-10's terror and hate of "hipsters" worked wonders for convincing people that culture smaller/weirder/more personal than Top 40 or Disney properties was suspicious and insincere. I still see people pushing middle age talking about culture through this lens and it's bonkers. Brain damage 19800174
Flannagan the Dread 🔞 @flannaganthered.bsky.social · 30/10/2024sometimes it was tho, there's still lots of people out there who hate on stuff just because it's popular/mainstream 020
felix link in bio @legobutts.bsky.social · 30/10/2024hipsters made me mad for about 2 years between 20-22 and i think that’s the only real healthy time to think “they” are annoying, cuz i was a dumbass 1110
Kira bad time oh no @dangerchunk.bsky.social · 30/10/2024We’re all still living in the shadow of Hipster Runoff 030
fisher @fishkinger.bsky.social · 30/10/2024Imo there's a genuine discussion to be had about the fast fashion-ification of subcultures enabled by stuff like Tiktok where they are boiled further down from communities into aesthetics you buy. But yeah a lot of it is people pointing at young people doing their thing and calling them posers lol 071
Jombo @winderwinder.bsky.social · 30/10/2024My (30yo) cousin from a very tiny town in central Canada, who’s never left said town, called me 40 yo) a hipster (disparagingly) once. He said it’s because I had a beard. So I don’t even know if some folks even know what it is they’re saying? 0100
condo potato 🥔 @condopotato.bsky.social · 30/10/2024I still hear people repeating something to the effect of "hipsters didn't want to look like everyone else so they all dressed the same" without any indication that that was the only reason. The implication that anyone who doesn't conform to the most popular aesthetic must be an idiot 0231
DonE @optional.bsky.social · 30/10/2024I think I still get this from some corners of my family. At least a few of them have grown out of it! 030
G! @gpike.bsky.social · 30/10/2024There's nothing a hipster hates more than another hipster, in my experience. 040
Nick Land Acknowledgement 🇵🇸🏳️🌈 @lonestartallboi.bsky.social · 30/10/2024A line of thought that had no small part in the rise of the Disney Adult 0210
Miranda Miller’s Skeleton @randymiller.bsky.social · 30/10/2024I'm angry that "film bro" stopped meaning a specific type of guy who was snobby but actually quite shallow in taste (Tarantino, American Psycho, Drive, etc.) and is instead used to demean anyone who doesn't think Marvel movies are the best ever. 0252
Spencer Melnick @spoincer.bsky.social · 30/10/2024Oh god, I just remembered that terrible song about how "hipsters" are all dickheads 020
Old Kentucky Shark @becktionary.bsky.social · 30/10/2024I often think about that extremely brief period where Wes Anderson movies sort of broke through to the mainstream and how I still see people bemoan "twee" movies however rarely they pop up these days in the deluge of super hero flicks. 1201
cynthianEVIL @cynthianevil.bsky.social · 30/10/2024Terror and hate? No. Annoyance, yes. Who the hell was afraid of “hipsters”? Where did you live? Were you an adult? 060
💛Really Sam Raleigh💛 @reallysamraleigh.bsky.social · 30/10/2024My love for supporting small, independent artists and referencing old film/TV that my peers didn't know totally got me labeled a hipster as an insult. Hipster hate just made me feel like nobody would ever possibly enjoy the things I enjoy & that I shouldn't bother sharing. Fucked up, honestly. 061
Armand Silvani @armandsilvani.bsky.social · 30/10/2024Is my calibration totally off on this being from NYC? In that era “hipster” was synonymous with gentrification. It felt like aspects of alt culture calcifying into a palatable mainstream marketing demographic, similar to “Big Nerd”. The blowback felt like ppl pointing out it was a shallow trend. 281
