and I did make sure to travel on VIA Rail's one serious (for North America anyway) intercity rail offering, business class was nice but not much to write home about - the 3 hour delay was certainly memorable but not in a good way bsky.app/profile/mmbb...

I made it to Toronto a few days ago, meaning I've now completed 1,890km of my 6,296km transcontinental rail journey.

nothing beats The Canadian though. this was my 2nd time taking it and it's just such a breathtaking trip, rolling from Ontario's lakes and forests to the prairie and into the Rocky Mountains is just stunning. rural ontario feels like another world compared to back home bsky.app/profile/mmbb...

the prairie really reminds me of the countryside out in the Riverina, the Wimmera and the Mallee back home (if it snowed in those places). beautiful expanses of space and gently rolling hills that just invite you to stare off into the distance bsky.app/profile/mmbb...
