flyflicker.bsky.social @flyflicker.bsky.social · 22/12/2024If this happened 4,000 years ago, why am I just hearing about it NOW?! Is this what the media has come down to - reporting 4,000 year old stories?? I demand a Senate investigation into this! Plus, drones. 2230

To me the Ring Nebula looks more like an eye than anything else. I don't quite understand why they call it the Ring Nebula lol 020
burnitdown @wtakick.bsky.social · 22/12/2024Also known as M57, a planetary nebula. Why planetary nebula? Because back then astronomers didn’t know what they were looking at. I know it mostly because it was on the cover of Star Hunter, Andre Norton’s 1961 book. 060

Please *always* credit whoever processed them - it's not good enough to just say that it's a JWST image. It took me ~60 seconds to find who to credit for this image - it is not difficult. 2360
Wayne @wizardwayne.bsky.social · 23/12/2024The ring nebula is a planetary nebula. It did not explode. It swelled up into a red giant lost outer layers of its atmosphere and collapse to be a white dwarf. It never exploded. A star with three solar masses won’t explode. 070
