Sarah Hörst @planetdr.bsky.social · 22/04/2026It’s a good thing the semester is almost over. This has by far been the worst semester since 2020-2022 and I’m so frustrated and angry I am increasingly struggling to be the kind of understanding and accommodating professor I aspire to be. 1935213 352
Sarah Hörst @planetdr.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Next semester I’m going to have to rethink and rewrite many of my course policies because things that have worked just fine for the last 12 years are Not Fine At All now. 92044 204
Andy Rivkin @asrivkin.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Yeah, I recently was talking to a friend who's a college professor in CA and who was similarly at the end of their rope and trying not to simply reflect the students' apparent attitudes toward the classes right back at them. 090 9
Navin Pokala 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇨🇦🇬🇱 @navinpokala.bsky.social · 22/04/2026What happened? Students often view my courses (Genetics, Neurosciences) as involuntary hurdles to overcome on their way to lucrative medical careers. But I would think students are taking astronomy courses because they *want* to. 070 7
QuixoticMage @quixoticmage.bsky.social · 22/04/2026These would be students who were in middle to early high school when Covid hit, right? I wonder if not having a certain level of structure during formative educational years led to this kind of behavior even after the special circumstances are over 000 0
Dorkenstein's Dad @dorkdad.bsky.social · 22/04/2026This is good and it makes you a good professor. You're adjusting your materials for the students you actually have, not some hypothetical students that you wish you had. (Also, this is an incredibly common theme among the many professors I know.) 030 3
Ron Belmont @ronbelmont.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Oh my God, same. I love my kids but they have tested my patience in a way that is truly different compared to other years. For the first time ever, next semester I'm going to have an attendance requirement. Might do in-person exams for the first time since 2019. 150 5
Ryan J Hollister @phaneritic.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Nice to know it’s not just ME. I’ve never had attendance wane halfway through a class like this year. Folks are exploiting late policies that are meant to be a lifeline but have instead become a way of life for many. I’m trying to figure out how to keep Ss in seats w/o draconian attendance policy. 7750 75
Sarah Hörst @planetdr.bsky.social · 22/04/2026No I don’t think this is because of AI but if it is we are utterly and completely fucked. 31271 127
Laura Hollister @xenolith.bsky.social · 22/04/2026We are experiencing the same in high school at all grade levels. Here’s my take for what it’s worth: 170 7
Joshua Foust 🪖🎮 @joshuafoust.com · 22/04/2026This is comforting, in a way. It’s nice to hear that this is a more common experience. Every one of my colleagues is exhausted from trying to navigate this vibe shift, or whatever it is, that’s happened with students. 050 5
