I worked with #50501Movement and Indivisible to help plan one of the April 5th events and my big takeaway is that it's not enough. We need mass mobilization AND more direct action. We need to build the resistance and our operational capabilities to respond to civil rights abuses locally.

Form small but mighty local coalitions. Expand them while we still have the freedom to do that. The impulse for change begins locally. We need all of this right now. Keep the wheel squeaking. From my experience nothing changes until upper middle classes are effected, rally them.

It sounds like you need to organize a group to fight civil rights abuses locally. Well, maybe find out who from your city attends the 50501 events, then appeal to them to join the cause. Definitely seems like an important part of the process.

The turnout on the 5th was proof that it's growing. But the turnout has to be double that size to get a notice from the back slappers in Congress. We have to have public events. The public has to see it. trump lied to all of America for a dozen years at rallies paid for by reality show fans.

We need information on how to set up a rally in our town, burg, city. What licenses do we need, how much to pay for sanitation, do we need security? Boston is too far and expensive, but a closer rally would help.

But it is heading in the right direction! The first event I went to a month ago in a very red city had like 100 people and it was amazing…this event had thousands here and I was literally stunned!!! We do need more but that also requires a lot more organizing and resources!

If you aim to do direct action it’s super important that people with experience share their skills and knowledge to grow the pool of people available to take direct action effectively. Remaining non violent under pressure and planning powerful targeted actions takes training and practice.

Exactly. Weekend protests are a good start but there needs to be wholesale disruption of the day-to-day operations of the country. A general strike would help to achieve this.

Protest that can be ignored, will be ignored. People in power have to feel economic and political pain. The money machine must stop. In France, the whole country would have already been shut down and nobody would be going home. General strike or it'll just be a fun day out with chanting and signs.

We need to be able to respond to human rights abuses and we also need some social safety nets to help our communities so more people can feel free to resist. We need more mutual aid.
