George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 07/07/2026If there is one thing that could induce us to kill each other, it's the conflict-driven business model of the big social media companies. When will the government insist that a harmonious society is more important than their goddamn profits? 2445973

Kate Martin @ktmartin.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Don't we have some individual responsibility? If we reread our own posts, aren't we all playing our part in the conflict driven model? 000

integrityx2.bsky.social @integrityx2.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I think it will be a global food crisis bought on by climate change and water scarcity. My partner loses her shit if she misses out on a snack. Pan European hangry women will be the end of us all. At least it’ll be quick and we cant say we didn’t see it coning. 030
Ciarán @ciaranoc.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I can't think of any good reason why governments don't fight back against the scourge of social media, other than they have been compromised by them. In Ireland, one of our data protection commissioners is a former senior meta employee and lobbyist. Very impartial I'm sure. 120
Nicola Gaston @nicgaston.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I don’t know if ‘harmonious’ even need be the goal. ‘Functional Democratic’ societies should be something that democratically elected governments have a mandate to work towards, no? 020

Christopher McCabe @cjmccabe.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Too many politicians love conflict - often it is how they made their names and their money. We likely need to change our politicians for governments to give up these conflict machines. 000
electricpolecat.bsky.social @electricpolecat.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I suspect that the big social media companies own enough politicians to make sure this never happens. Especially as the rising generation has been on social media all their lives, and every indiscretion and/or youthful stupidity is stored on a server somewhere. 000

Irked Badger @irkedbadger.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I think you are letting off lightly 1. the fossil fuels companies that have lobbied for war & hid scientific findings. 2. the weapons trade, war = profit that is the model. They lobby as well. 3. traditional media that cheers on war, omits facts about 1 & 2 & stacked with spook vetted personnel 110

🇨🇦🇸🇪 🧡 🇺🇦🇵🇸 @promich.bsky.social · 07/07/2026One thing? That would be the driver supremacist status quo, with force car dependent societies which have essentially legalised homicide. Big social media companies do make the top ten though. 000
