The only sound policy would be a presumption AGAINST development. That would mean the developers would have to demonstrate social need and pass a proper environmental assessment (not the data free rubbish by developer lobby consultancies that passes for that now). you are describing doing more brownfield housing development without biodiversity offset as "trashing the lives of the poor". It does sound less good than doing brownfield development with nearby biodiversity offset, I'll give you that.

The single-biggest policy needed towards addressing this is to ban all private donations to political parties. Property developers are among the biggest donors, so it's no surprise many policies exist in their favour. Would also stop crypto donations of illicit Russian money going to Farage et al.

It is like what happened with the Astley warehouses in Wigan. Green space in the middle of a residential area, used by locals, turned into a building site. Instead of a green space they now have light & noise pollution, overlooked gardens, flooding that impacts children getting to school & despair.

When you remember that green spaces were first introduced to keep workers healthy enough to toil for more years, and then consider that they no longer need us working 18 hours a day in “dark satanic mills” it makes perfect sense. The poor were a commodity, now we’re just in the way.

I think the issue of air bnb needs addressing. It destroys community and removes available rental accommodation for living in. It's a method of class cleansing from cities.
