Eternal Skies TCG RPG @eternalskies.neocities.org · 04/08/2026Every time I post about systems or tutorials, I always get people telling me oh just have them do actions because nobody will read anything. My guy, it is a TCG. If they don't read words, they literally cannot play the game. The game is made of words and rules, you HAVE to look at them. 141116 111
GeekE Media @geekemedia.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Ah yes, they must be referring to the rare and elusive "PCG", or Picture Card Game. Only those brave enough to venture through aisles of disproportionate dolls and buckets of hazardous plastic cubes will ever find it. It used to be known by a different name...I believe it was "Memory". 010 1
sozcog.bsky.social @sozcog.bsky.social · 04/08/2026A TCG based on pictures alone would be funny to watch. 110 1
Matt w. The Gyatt [They/Them] @ugottmatt.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Video games are like half the reason my reading comprehension is so good. Its ironic to see people say the most visual form of entertainment not rely on actual linguistics. 020 2
Raziel's Ghost @razielsghost.bsky.social · 05/08/2026i had this reaction too until i played a tcg recently that didnt baby me enough at the start (all cards have decent complexity from the get go) and as a result i didnt really read almost any cards still. like i read whatever the opponent plays and whats in my hand but it's felt horrible 110 1

GuacGameDev 🥑 (WISHLIST Catto Chateau) @guacgamedev.bsky.social · 10/08/2026I mean if there's customized decks perhaps those players can just build a damage only deck or something then only have to read it once. 010 1
Romain Macré - Alexus 2040 Demo on Steam @romainmacre.bsky.social · 05/08/2026When you read the rules of a card game or board game, you can read it in one go, but it's easier to try as you go. I think it's the same with a tutorial, text is fine but easier if it complements some action that you can do, so you don't have to remember several points without visual feedback. 110 1
Eternal Skies TCG RPG @eternalskies.neocities.org · 04/08/2026Also a lot of card game players just love rules. I have had so many people ask for the rules and rulebook without being able to play the game yet. 0100 10
Eternal Skies TCG RPG @eternalskies.neocities.org · 04/08/2026If you're trying to play a card game without understanding the rules or the text on the cards, you're just kind of..... randomly clicking on a screen. 370 7
Torgrim Neighen @raisoue.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Now, I play a lot of card games, and I gotta be honest, the less I have to read, the more I enjoy it. I play Yugioh Edison, for example, because I know the cards from my childhood. Reading modern yugioh, though, is a nightmare for me. 110 1
Nico Tidebreak @nsdiaz.bsky.social · 04/08/2026(i'm tutorializing this week and my tutorial totally broke down when put in front of a real new player so this is fresh on my head) 020 2
Nico Tidebreak @nsdiaz.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Too true. Also a good tutorial will be an unsung hero and go unnoticed. But a bad tutorial will put the players off so there is definitely the risk that an explanation is contrived or you use the wrong words and players get hung up trying to do something that's not even part of the game. 030 3
Petit Wallaby @petitwallaby.bsky.social · 04/08/2026I know for experience that no matter how much you try to cater to the people who never read anything, they’ll still manage to not pay attention! 110 1
