Anyone who lived through the 90s would have seen that image in movies, TV, video games, history textbooks etc etc. Anyone with WW2 veteran grandparents has seen it and if you're a political journalist and somehow haven't you're too dumb to do your job.

People have gaps in their knowledge. Acting like that is absolutely disqualifying when Grimm seems to be on the right side with his other coverage seems punitive to me.

Grim hasnt responded in like 24hrs to any of this garbage he stirred up so if you ask me that is disqualifying. Dont start shit if you cant deal with the backlash.

it is absolutely disqualifying for grim to lecture people about the relevance of the totenkopf when he purportedly didn’t know what it was until platner’s tattoo came up

This is a very funny time to be defending the guy who said that Platner can't be an antisemite because his wife is Jewish, an untrue statement he learned from a white supremacist blogger.

Maybe some of us expect “journalist” to actually be a knowledge profession, consisting of educated people who need to have demonstrated some bare minimum of inquisitiveness about the world. I’m aware that’s just idealistic fantasy in today’s America but it didnt use to be.

You're right. If a journalist covers sports or entertainment, science etc there could be this gap in knowledge in this case. A political journalist not knowing the most Nazi image outside of a swastika is bad at their career and skipped an important part of history in their education.
