Great use of the tens of thousands of dwarf mongoose body mass measurements collected over the years. Animals vary substantially in mass across days and seasons - when determining if a tag is too heavy we need to think about how light an animal might become, not just its mass right now.

Are people bad randomizers in general, or only in some contexts? In our new paper, now in press at Cognition, we found that 'socializing' randomization — in this case by pitting people against each other in a live game of Battleship — dramatically improved randomization behavior 👇🏼

Something that worries me more every day: I suspect most fields have 5-25 breakthrough ideas latent in existing data and literature. Say you’re a midsize AI company looking for cred. Why not hire a *small* team of domain experts + 1000 agents … and promote your models as the ones that broke Econ?

A great blue heron strikes a pose while preening in the early morning light at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this vertical color photograph, a great blue heron perches on a log extending from the pond toward the camera. The heron is seen in left profile, with its neck and head turned back over its body and raised into the air as it carefully preens its feathers.

The background is entirely pond water, reflecting the orange-red color of a small Kubota excavator on the bank that is being used for construction. The unexpected reflection adds a striking warmth and unique character to the scene, creating a beautiful contrast between the heron’s natural surroundings and the human activity beyond the frame.

A beautiful, quiet moment of a great blue heron in a wetland habitat so vital to its survival.

Was curious about what NASA stuff the Internet Archive might have and came across this gorgeous bit of cassette/diskette futurism: wind tunnel software and hardware at the Lewis Research Centre. The worm logo is so fitting for that kind of display. <3
A photo dated 1989 of two guys in comfy plaid check shirts at a pair of crt monitors (black frame with white casing), one pressing buttons on a slanted keyboard that has a bit of a retro feel even for 1989 while the other sports a headset and holding a black box. Vibrant and share schematics of a wind tunnel can be seen on one screen while a blue background with the red NASA worm logo is displayed on the other.
