I just finished this one. Fast read for me, very informative but not in an overly scientific kind of way. I reccomend this one too. ✨️📖🍄✨️ #mycology #thesecretlifeoffungi #ecology #reading #booksky #mushrooms #fungi #books

New life goal unlocked: old woman who suddenly appears by the edge of the forest holding her cat. Photo from my collection, no date/info.

Black and white photo of a woman wearing a long dark dress. She is standing on the far side of a wire fence in front of a wall of snowy trees. She looks at the camera with a smile and holds up a beautiful striped tabby cat.

Japanese landscape photography as "Pearl Fuji" (Pāru Fuji), where the full moon rests precisely at the apex of Mount Fuji's crater rim like a luminous orb.

This photograph captures the rare celestial alignment known in Japanese landscape photography as "Pearl Fuji" (Pāru Fuji), where the full moon rests precisely at the apex of Mount Fuji's crater rim like a luminous orb. The extraordinary symmetry of the volcanic cone provides a bold, monumental foundation, its famous 3,776-meter silhouette rising with effortless grace above a low-lying cloud bank. By positioning the moon at the exact midpoint of the crater peak, the composition creates an intense focal balance, transforming the towering mountain into a cosmic altar supporting a glowing sphere of golden light.

The chromatic harmony of the scene relies on a delicate interplay between warm and cool tones. Twilight’s fleeting alpenglow coats the jagged volcanic ridges near the summit in a soft blush of rose madder and dusty violet, echoing the classical visual tradition of Aka-Fuji (Red Fuji). Further down, the mountain's sweeping flanks transition into deep indigo and slate, grounded by a soft veil of cobalt mist clinging to the lower slopes. Behind the peak, the sky transitions smoothly from a warm, champagne-gold glow at the horizon into a muted, dusk-toned pale grey, casting a soft, diffuse light over the craters and gullies carved into the volcanic rock.

Beyond its photographic precision, the image deeply resonates with the aesthetic traditions of Japanese visual art, echoing the graphic clarity of ukiyo-e prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige as well as the atmospheric solitude of 20th-century shin-hanga nightscapes. In Japanese art history, the juxtaposition of the immutable mountain with the fleeting arc of the moon embodies the profound tension between structural permanence and seasonal impermanence (mujō). The deliberate, harmonious placement of the celestial body evokes a spirit of serene contemplation (yūgen), catching a fleeting, tranquil moment where nature, atmosphere, and geometry achieve perfect visual poise.

This digital painting, circa 2020, is fan art of the character Ashitaka from the Japanese Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke. It was created by artist Atey Ghailan, also known as "snatti". The scene depicts Ashitaka riding his red elk, Yakul, through a forest filled with glowing Kodama spirits

Created by concept artist and illustrator Atey Ghailan (known online as "Snatti"), this evocative digital painting serves as fan art celebrating Hayao Miyazaki's classic Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke (もののお姫, 1997). The composition captures the Emishi prince Ashitaka astride his faithful red elk companion, Yakul, as they journey through a shadowed, twilight forest. Ghailan’s signature use of loose, expressive brushwork and atmospheric lighting shines through the deep indigo palette of the woodland, which is brilliantly contrasted by the ethereal cyan glow of small Kodama (tree spirits) dotting the forest floor and perched near Ashitaka. The piece masterfully channels the serene yet mysterious wonder of the Ancient Forest, highlighting Ghailan's ability to blend storytelling and mood through light and color.
