My thoughts on the Latvian elections for LSE blogs. Latvia steers right, as radical right parties massively increase the number of their seats and major centre parties lose support. However, the radical right in Latvia differs from that in many other European countries.

The UNET Fellows have studied displacement, education, mental health, resilience, social cohesion & much more. In the process, we learned that research itself needs care: care for the people we study, care for those doing the research, and care in how knowledge about Ukraine is produced and shared.

As we launch UNET Times, Ukraine is facing relentless attacks. Events such as these make one of the questions at the heart of UNET Times immediate: How can we produce knowledge about Ukraine and the war it is facing without losing sight of the human beings living through it?

The Academy is a beacon of Ukrainian science and also the academic home of several fellows in our Ukraine Research Network@ZOiS (UNET) project. It is with great sadness that we view these attacks, which painfully highlight what this war is really about: the destruction of Ukrainian sovereignty.

Since the summer, Russia has been carrying out itensified air strikes on Ukrainian cities. In Kyiv in particular, it is ruthlessly destroying civilian targets. This week, Russia set fire to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in a drone attack. Two people lost their lives as a result.
