They genuinely do get advances sooner. Partially due to brexit. A lot of our high tech infrastructure came from EU-wide modernisation initiatives which we don't have the political will nor the financial means to do ourselves.

That said, if the heat wave you mentioned lasted a while it could've been logistical. There were some ice shortages due to prolonged drought a couple years back.

I saw this happen back when I worked in a pub. There was a heat wave so everyone suddenly wanted iced drinks and we ran out of ice in a matter of hours. By the end of the month we'd overcompensated and had a freezer full of bags of ice.

We're very familiar with the idea. Most new builds have heat pumps or split systems. The issue is most people don't live in a new build, and many are already struggling financially. It just gets added to the ever-expanding list of "Home improvements I should get around to eventually™"

Ice used at restaurants usually isn't produced in-house but is instead produced by manufacturers like The Ice Co. They buy it in big bulk bags.

Yes they are. You're forgetting that solar radiation exists. (and to a lesser extent, internal sources of heat like electronics and appliances) The earth is not a closed thermodynamic system. Just because insulation is symmetric doesn't mean the flow of energy will be.

Einstein didn't think the universe was static, relativity only made sense in a universe which was either expanding or contracting. What Einstein didn't like was the implication that space can have a non-0 energy, which he eventually accepted as part of his belief that there is no empty space.

The final straw for me was them stuffing copilot into visual studio code, which was originally supposed to be a lightweight IDE & text editor. Because nothing screams "lightweight" like 10 years of bloat being topped off with an extension nobody asked for, which doesn't even work as intended.
