After two weeks' holiday, I don't feel ready to go back to work. I'm already missing the Längsee, but having coffee ☕ with colleagues is also pretty nice.

This morning, Austria played against Jordan. Apparently, this is the first #WM match Austria has won since I was born! 🤨

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline. “Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet. Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming. Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”

Happy to share that our work on mixing of miscible liquids in a stirred tank reactor is now online as preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2605.06144 This was a rather interesting project for a few reasons. The team was really big with some drama and mixing and Re >> 1 is not really me expertise 😅 #LBM #CFD

Mixing of miscible liquids: Dimensionless scaling for intermediate-to-large density differences in a stirred tank

Mixing of miscible liquids is an essential process in multiple industrial settings, usually with the intent to homogenize the product. This seemingly simple process is in fact a complex hydrodynamic p...

Our paper on thin film dewetting has been published in #Langmuir. Huge thanks to Karim for putting the work together. He used #Swalbe.jl to run a crazy amount of numerical experiments to get an estimate for the post rupture film coverage of a surface. Paper: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

First time #Parkrun volunteer this week. The weather was perfect and there was a pleasant scent of spring in the air. #Graz does not have the busiest parkrun, usually <50 runners, but there have already been three new participation records this year. So, if you're in Graz on a Saturday morning 😉

What a nice week so far. Learned a lot about manufactoring of steel parts and well thought company strategic goals. Had a paper accepted in #Langmuir with someone who used the #LBM code that I developed for my PhD (Swalbe.jl). And did quite well for the Graz #halfmarathon last Sunday 😊

What a month March has been! We finally managed to produce a finished draft of our turbulent mixing study using #LBM. The project turned out really well in the end. We generated lots of data and found an exponential expression for the mixing time. It just needs to be approved by the legal team.

A student and I currently working on a paper which introduces a model that predicts the dimensionless mixing time in a stirred tank. This "time" basically says how often one needs to rotate the impeller until the liquids are mixed. #CFD #liquidmixing #stirredtankreactor

It's #2026, and I've been back in the office since yesterday. It's an exciting time to be working in #pharma, with Novo getting its weight loss pill approved by the FDA at the end of 2025. I don't really understand why they had to let so many people go, yet still got the pill approved before Lilly.

It's getting cold here in #Graz and #commuting by bike is rather fresh. Sometime earlier this year I bought arm sleeves (because they were reduced in pricing) and I have to say I am impressed. Struggling with cold hands and arms, the arm problem is now sorted 😊

I finally had some time, so I installed #BazziteOS on my gaming laptop, and so far, so good! As well as being able to play games, I can also compile code, and the power management is much better under Linux. Windows kept the fan speed rather high, which my wife joked about constantly. So over the last half a year, a colleague generated results for a paper that we are writing. The colleague is a rather fresh PhD student and he did some amazing simulations. But as I learned myself having nice results is only 1/3 of a done paper. Currently sorting what will end up in the appendix 🤔

The likely reason why AI companies make such wild and unsubstantiated claims about AI capabilities rather than market them on the merits of what they can actually do is that there is probably no market that will pay enough for these services to recover the cost, let alone the investments.

I submitted slides for #EFDC2; let's see if I adapt them in the meantime. At plenty of conferences I have been to, people have edited their slides literally during their talk. I'm not saying it's good, but preparing the slides a month in advance seems excessive 🤨. #conference #submittedondeadline

Some #running stuff 🏃. Currently training for a new half marathon PB and until this week my watch only suggested base runs. This week threshold sessions are weaved in. Monday the first session was 17min @ tempo which turned out to be fine (for reference a little less 4.5km). Today 2x 20min 😵

Good news: Was asked to chair a session at the #EFDC2 🙂 Bad news: One project that needs to be wrapped up has gone somewhat nuclear 🤯 There are many things to do, but first let's finish the slides for my talk on August 26th in Dublin 😅

The #EFDC2 is approaching fast, a little over a month left until the conference starts in Dublin. To my surprise I got an email yesterday that I should send the organizers my sildes until August 1st. Hell, I know a lot of people who finish their talk in the session before their presentation 🙈
