the semi open world is prob easier to do given that you’re just dragging and dropping existing systems and don’t have to build a whole online infrastructure plus it probably does more for sales. and yeah i hate that as much as you do 😂

i think the latter is a fruitless pursuit because there’s basically zero parity between individual works with regard to how easily they let you derive intent. i also just find the very idea of it inherently thought-terminating:i have to consult the word of god before i’m allowed to have a take

i think discussing intent as a way of asking "why is this like this" is solid but if you're actually looking at something as art you kind of should evaluate it through a pov that looks at it for the whats and not the whys lol

feels like they got way too comfortable never fostering their own set of japanese blockbusters cuz they thought they could keep final fantasy, metal gear, resident evil, tekken, etc. exclusive to their platforms forever. sure would be good if they could pump out games at nintendo’s pace right now!

even if you remove the AAA stipulation, you’d be left with just… gravity rush, astro bot or the last guardian over the last decade. obviously not saying they’re less valuable as games for being niche but the crisis sony are currently in honestly was two decades in the making if you think about it.

you could argue sony’s put their full publishing weight behind a couple semi-recent japanese AAA games (both death strandings, bloodborne? anything else?) but when was the last time one of them was developed at one of their own studios?

It feels like people aren't willing to do the long building of their channels that those did and see baiting the algorithm and chasing FOMO discourse as a shortcut to big viewership. Only now that shortcut is so full that the way longer honest highway feels like the better option.

mark ruffalo was in the latest spider-man movie even though he’s been openly and aggressively pro palestine for years. unless disney materially support the genocide in some way i’m not super convinced of the necessity to boycott them.

i’m aware but the specific reason they’re on the list is that they have given roles to zionist actors and that the latest captain america movie contains a character that canonically was a mossad-agent at one point. those are obviously bad things but IMO overall weak reasons to boycott.
