Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 26/01/2025A few more modifications and a slightly better presentation for this furry little guy made in #b3d. #Blender3D has so many little nooks & crannies you can get lost in. 040
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 25/01/2025Taking a temporary break from working on my recent rabbit character (he needs clothing) to continue experimenting with different #b3d hair techniques on another character since there's more hair stuff in #blender3d I want to learn. 030
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 21/01/2025You think you're getting the hang of something, but then a few days later you realize that was rubbish. But now...now you're getting the hang of it. Hair in #b3d. Still frustrating, but slightly more fun. Progress. 030
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 16/01/2025My first experience working with fur in #blender3d has been equal parts fun & frustrating. Nothing here is finished (inc the sculpt), but after literal days of messing around, I'm finally making headway & figuring out the #b3d quirks & solutions to them. 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 14/01/2025#b3d donations spiked recently due to their campaign. I suspect they'd spike further if people were personally invested in seeing specific features get developed. I'd certainly feel inclined to spread awareness of a campaign if I was assured my investment & promotion would yield benefits I sought. 000
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 14/01/2025Thing is, they say it's a lack of resources/team size prohibiting #b3d from working on texture layers, but I have a strong suspicion they'd get donation aplenty if they simply stated what they needed to make texture dev happen. I know I'd make an extra donation if I knew it'd go towards that. 110
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 10/01/2025To get into #blender3d new sculpting tools, I've been intermittently modeling a jacked rabbit. Still needs tweaking, but fur and clothing (fighter or blacksmith, maybe) will likely hide a lot. I may just take a shortcut in that direction. Plus, I'm looking forward to playing with #b3d fur & cloth! 030
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 22/12/2024In anticipation of testing out #Blender3d updated sculpting tools, I've been tweaking my base mesh to get different character forms. Early stages, but I think making digitigrades look balanced might be tricky. Looking forward to sculpting in #b3d. 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 19/12/2024Same. It's why I try to devote 3-4 months of my year to it! It's like the great "reset/refresh" button. 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 10/12/2024Here's another ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #blender3d addon I recently acquired that's immediately become an essential part of my #b3d experience. Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 28/11/2024A few more test renders from my #blender3d procedural planet experiments. Getting a better grasp on things & learning lots! Especially how easy it is to break the illusion of proper scale when you design things procedurally at a planetary scale. Lots of #b3d fun though! 041
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 24/11/2024A few more flawed, but interesting test renders from my recent exploration into procedural planets made in #blender3d Still working on everything except the atmosphere, which I'm pretty content with. Can you believe this is just a 2m sphere? 010
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Some more experimenting in the #blender3d procedural planet rabbit hole. Running into plenty of issues, but pleased with progress. Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 19/11/2024Recently jumped down a procedural planet making rabbit hole in #blender3d (applying a combination of different techniques I've seen by others) resulting in this first pass. Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Oh for sure. Know the rules and have a system. Then you can deliberately deviate from both when you have a solid reason for doing so and you know why you're getting the results you're getting. 😊 110
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 15/11/2024💡Be mindful of occasional inconsistencies with regard to UI/input precision in #Blender3d For example, cell fracture extension reads "0.00" for the margin, but it isn't actually "zero", it's "0.001" & not visible until you click it. For those who work at real world scale it matters. 120
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 19/03/2024💡 If you're frequently opening #Blender3D files without loading the UI (often other people's files), did you know that "Load UI" is a default setting you can turn off in #b3d preferences? #blendertip 152

Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 09/02/2024💡 Did you know that you don't have to tediously deactivate addons to test #Blender3D with factory settings? There are 2 simple ways on #b3d Windows (& probably similar on other OS). #blendertip 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 06/02/2024Many people know that SHIFT+ALT+Z in #blender3d will toggle overlays, but... 💡Did you know there is an overlays icon in #b3d that is only visible in mesh edit mode and it provides useful overlays like edge length and face area? #blendertip 041
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 01/02/2024Changing default units in #blender3d isn’t necessarily an ideal solution for anyone, but it may have the effect of making some #b3d physics-related addons that don’t allow users to change default collision values to actually work as expected with real-world scale. #blendertip See also: 010
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 01/02/2024Yes, you can customize settings in your #blender3d startup file to adjust many of #b3d's defaults. But based on my tests, "collision margin" settings are not persistent. Nor are "object collisions distance" or "self collisions" with cloth & neither is any node or modifier data. 000

Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 30/01/2024Some people say #Blender3D physics is broken. But my tests so far have shown that common physics issues are likely related to not changing #b3d's default collision settings to appropriate values. #blendertip See also: bsky.app/profile/zero... 030
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 30/01/2024Cloth + cloth behaves differently than cloth + rigid bodies. But the settings are similar and adjustable to get things to work at real-world scale. 010
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 30/01/2024Yes, even cloth + rigid body physics work in #blender3d at real-world scale when you adjust #b3d's default settings accordingly. #blendertip See also: bsky.app/profile/zero... 122
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 30/01/2024Working at real-world scale with #blender3d physics means rigid bodies will sometimes "explode" away from each other or not be able to get very close. Often, the simple solution is to change #b3d's default collision margin from .04m to .001m. #blendertip 021
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 26/01/2024💡In #blender3d Control+L will copy ALL modifiers from one object to selected objects. But did you know that you can... Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 24/01/2024If you're a #blender3d user and you use an addon, material, asset, vanilla #b3d feature (physics, cell fracture...), or anything else doesn't work as expected at real-world scale, please let the developer know (including Blender Foundation). #blendertip 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 24/01/2024Ice comes in a vast number of varieties with all kinds of looks influenced by temperature, environment, impurities, etc. My experiments here represent examples of only one or maybe two types of ice… mainly high-end food service ice which is known for its lack of impurities. #b3d 000
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 24/01/2024Did a little work on some cracked ice in #blender3d to supplement my ice shader. This required finding a decent way to make semi believable cracked ice geometry as well as tweaking some settings so the #b3d ice would hold up at extreme close-up. #blenderart #blenderrender #3dart 110
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 21/01/2024Flipped normals are another common issue when working with other people's #blender3d files. This is why I recommend turning on face orientation in #b3d under Viewport Overlays & making it usable by changing the Face Orientation Front setting ALPHA to 0 under Themes>3D Viewport 020
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 20/01/2024One of the other things my #blender3d startup file contains is a plane with a grid pattern. Why? Because I can easily tell at a glance this model is approximately 8" wide. You can of course set your #b3d grid pattern to cm like a civilized person if you like. #blendertip 010
Zero Dean @zerodean.bsky.social · 20/01/2024Haha. It happens! I feel that's forgivable if it's a non blender file. There can be scale discrepancies between software. However, I once opened a .blend file with a truly enormous plate on which sat a giant stick of butter. 010
