DV3 feels like a mix of DVC and DVM.. only much worse. It's hard af. Hard not to puke when looking at chock full of generated imagery. Not to mention that it's also possibly the worst gacha I've ever played. Characters, equipments, even skins that gives you stat boost? ffs gimme a break.

So, that arbitrary palette dithering project is mainly because I want to convert images into 16 color display like my old Garmin 235 watch. Their app already does the conversion, but idk why I don't particularly like how it looks~

LRT: for limited palette, of course GIF still mostly wins, but for resampled image like I posted before, JXL wins by quite a margin. E7 btw, not much difference with E10 for JXL

so continuing that dither project, I want to make ordered dither also work on arbitrary color palettes. and boy that was quite a ride.. while the bit-reduction dither was as simple as linear interpolation between individual channels, arbitrary palette needs more elaborate method.

Image color reduction with 4-bit RGBI palette. Top is using GIMP by converting RGB color into indexed, bottom is using tetrahedral interpolation.

*checks the last time I calibrated this display* December 2023 ...either my colorimeter drift together with my monitor (which is absolutely unlikely) or the monitor is just that stable. Note that this is my daily screen and almost never got turned off.

I keep forgetting how powerful Krita's "Lambert Lighting" blend mode is.. perfect mode whenever I'm going "lazy" with shading and want a single layer (or group) for both shade and lighting w/o resorting to gradient map. I like how it properly darken the opposing color when using colored lights~

Updated CDN comparison on dark tones, boosted brightness from the original image and upscaled for clearer differences. OG is uploaded directly through API to my PDS, 16bpc lossy. The dithering pattern is coming from 16 to 8 bit conversion for display. Though, the default is still served as webp :p

Personal story time I got tinnitus since child and I thought that was a common thing that everyone have. I never told my parents as well since it doesn't bother my daily life. Until the day I lost one of my hearing and doctor said that tinnitus is not normal and should have it checked earlier.. :p
