“Fish” can be both singular (one individual fish) or plural (multiple fish of the same species.) “Fishes” refers to individuals of different species. 🐟 Fish 🐟🐟🐟 Fish 🐠🐟🐡 Fishes Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Unfortunately, media has taken the upper bound of one model estimate (among many) and run with it to say Lake Sturgeon *could* live for over 400 years. This isn’t necessarily what the science says, and methods used are somewhat tenuous. Several other fish aging experts agree it’s an overestimate.

Vernal pool site where I trained volunteers in summer ‘24, I didn’t hear from their supervisor (county parks staff) till spring ‘25 to learn another county department cleared dead ash and invasive shrubs around the pool. Luckily, had left over funding to plant native plugs, seed mix, and live stakes
