The mainstream conventional wisdom in both cases is that people who are anti-AI or pro trans marginalized themselves by being too far outside the mainstream. My alternative hypothesis is that both trans activists (particularly mainstream adjacent orgs) and anti-AI people were too easy to ignore.

In both cases, life has been drastically reshaped for the worse and society is taking it with a shrug. In both cases, reasonable concerns and radical demands are treated as equally ignorable. AI is making everyone's life worse, both boosters and critics acknowledge that, but nothing is done.

If 50% of the eligible voting base is, during a time of extreme public outcry and dissatisfaction, choosing not to vote, that is an utter failure of the bodies they would theoretically vote for. That they can't turn that dissatisfaction into votes is completely on politicians
